Posted on March 23, 2017**Note from Jason and Mari Mountsier**
How strange that being diagnosed with cancer has left me feeling more blessed than any other time in my life. Yes, there have been the ugly moments; “your tumor is malignant,” and “your scenario is inoperable” (my hope was they could carve it out and I could move on) and of course, having “the conversation” with the kids. I’ve counseled many families on how… doing is so much harder.
Let’s get back to the blessed part. From the word go, Mari and I, and now the kids have been absolutely enveloped in love, kindness, empathy, and sympathy. This has come from people we are already close to and those we are not, yet. We’ve already had offers in all areas, getting together to talk or not talk, meet to eat or not eat, cry, laugh, or both. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
When presented with the idea of a place for people to support our process, Mari and I were both uneasy. It just feels strange, but what an incredible blessing this has already been. The monetary piece has been a total shock, but the comments and the speed at which it has all come in has brought both of us to tears many times throughout each day. Truly. Thank you so much, Holly (and others) for walking us through this.
Keep the prayers thoughts and well wishes coming. Our new reality has settled, but the work starts now. A friend, who is on the tail end of fighting the same cancer and is still banging through the side effects and changes in body function, told me today that, “this cancer is a barbaric beast, you’re going to hate it.” My hope and prayer is that I can fight it with some semblance of strength and grace. With all of your incredible support, I hope to get close. I cannot tell you how much better I feel knowing my family is held up so beautifully by all of you. We thank you with all of our hearts.
Holly is going to include a picture of my new buddy that you can all smooch on at the remission party. He is currently nameless so we’re open to ideas.
With love and gratitude-
Jason, Mari, Lucy, Silas
