The Story

Dear Friends of Jason, Mari, Lucy and Silas,

As most of you know, Jason was diagnosed with throat cancer. He will undergo aggressive, daily radiation treatment for at least seven weeks. This treatment, as well as recovery is certainly not easy, but the entire medical team and the Mountsiers are very optimistic.

Many of us have counted on Mari and Jason as teacher, as counselor, as friend.  Our children have attended school with and are friends with Silas and Lucy.  Now, it is our turn to show them our support as they go through this trying time.

While both Mari and Jason work for the Mill Valley School District at Tam Valley Elementary, Jason also has a thriving private practice.  They depend on this income in order to meet financial obligations.  Unfortunately, Jason has had to stop his private practice during treatment and during recovery (as well as his position at TV.)  A career that counts on being able to speak doesn't mix well with radiation treatment to the throat.

Please help us to minimize at least one concern, that of financial stresses.  We want the Mountsiers to focus on getting Jason though treatment and recovery while keeping things for the kids as normal as possible.  Anything you would like to donate is greatly appreciated.  You may easily donate anonymously.

Thank you for your support and love,
Friends of the Mountsiers

**We will also be organizing meal delivery.  This will come out separately.**

**Note from Jason and Mari Mountsier**

All y’all,

How strange that being diagnosed with cancer has left me feeling more blessed than any other time in my life. Yes, there have been the ugly moments; “your tumor is malignant,” and “your scenario is inoperable” (my hope was they could carve it out and I could move on) and of course, having “the conversation” with the kids. I’ve counseled many families on how… doing is so much harder.

Let’s get back to the blessed part. From the word go, Mari and I, and now the kids have been absolutely enveloped in love, kindness, empathy, and sympathy. This has come from people we are already close to and those we are not, yet. We’ve already had offers in all areas, getting together to talk or not talk, meet to eat or not eat, cry, laugh, or both. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

When presented with the idea of a place for people to support our process, Mari and I were both uneasy. It just feels strange, but what an incredible blessing this has already been. The monetary piece has been a total shock, but the comments and the speed at which it has all come in has brought both of us to tears many times throughout each day. Truly. Thank you so much, Holly (and others) for walking us through this.

Keep the prayers thoughts and well wishes coming. Our new reality has settled, but the work starts now. A friend, who is on the tail end of fighting the same cancer and is still banging through the side effects and changes in body function, told me today that, “this cancer is a barbaric beast, you’re going to hate it.” My hope and prayer is that I can fight it with some semblance of strength and grace. With all of your incredible support, I hope to get close. I cannot tell you how much better I feel knowing my family is held up so beautifully by all of you. We thank you with all of our hearts.

Holly is going to include a picture of my new buddy that you can all smooch on at the remission party. He is currently nameless so we’re open to ideas.

With love and gratitude-

Jason, Mari, Lucy, Silas
