The Story

In early November, Jason was sent for an MRI to confirm a potential diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The good news was he did not have MS...the bad news was that he had a brain stem tumor sitting at the C1 location in the brain/spinal cord. By Nov 20th, after numerous tests Jason was on the operating table. Ten hours later, surgery was complete. As much of the tumor that could be was safely removed. However, the tumor was precipitously close to the major nerve pathways of the brain stem and not all of it could be removed. His
recovery is going well, and with some further work, including some physical therapy(PT) he should, and WILL, be his happy self.

We now know that the tumor is a polycytic astrocytoma, slow growing, and will be monitored over time for
growth. If needed, radiation therapy can be used, but not at this time. This is the part that remains unknown...we just wait and see and hope for the best.

Jason has health insurance through his employer...But he will NOT be receiving his salary during his 8 week (+/-) disability.  In addition as you all may know, the "leftovers", deductibles, co-pays, travel expenses, medical supplies etc. can be daunting. There is a long road ahead and we are appealing to friends, family and benevolent others to help Jason, and his 13 year old daughter, by contributing to this fundraiser. Jason will need help with some of the accumulating medical expenses incurred as a result.
Jason looks forward to returning to his position as an Art teacher, and resuming his work as an artist.

Please help us put him back on a sure footing financially after all this work, and to help him a bit toward the future. We would use any and all monies generously donated for these accumulating medical bills, and to hold him through the next couple of months for co-pays, deductibles, etc.

Thank you and Bless you!

Fundraiser Updates

Four months have passed now since Jason's surgery and I thought I should give all our friends an update. The neurosurgeon has removed as much of the tumor as possible, without causing severe problems. Jason still has a brain tumor and will for the years to come. He will be monitored regularly to follow any growth and problems. He continues his recovery. There is some neuropathy in his right foot, and some motor weakness on that side. The headaches continue and probably will for some time, as will the odd pains in his right arm. But his spirit and determination is strong and we are enjoying Every day! We thank you for all your many helps over these past months. If you can, we are grateful for any final contributions to help us sort out all these final expenses...only if you can. And we will be closing the site in about a month. Love and Joy to you all! Margaret And Jason's whole family.

Happy New Year to all our friends and donors. First, we want to say Thank You, thank you for all your support and your caring wishes for recovery. Jason saw the neurosurgeon yesterday and he has been cleared to return to work on January 11. He is very happy about that. As you know, the tumor could not be fully removed due to its location, so he will see the neurosurgeon again, with an MRI about four months from now. And he will continue to be followed by the doctors. Again, thank you all for your support. Please keep Jason in your prayers and thoughts for continuing recovery and, if you can, please help with these ongoing medical expenses.

Hi to all of our followers and donators. We are back in NC today. It's been a long haul of almost two months since all of this started. We had a good Holiday and Jason is recovering. He had a great Christmas time with his whole immediate family. He has a few balance issues and his voice is still recovering, but he is doing well. He sees the neurosurgeon next Wednesday and hopefully he will get a return to work date soon thereafter. His tumor will have to be routinely followed as it could not be fully removed, but there are future options. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers, and if you can help with the ongoing expenses, thank you so much. Happy New Year. We will update you again once Jason sees the surgeon.
