Jamie Dement is a caregiver for her veteran. Due to his chronic pain and PTSD, he can no longer work and going outside even hurts.
This past year has been very tough on them with their finances, between medical bills and a new AC unit. They used all their savings and had to put the AC unit on their only credit card, which maxed it out.
All was going okay, financially, until they had to rush their son to the ER. The first ER did what they could for him, but because he was underage, they referred him the Children’s Hospital. They transferred them and after examination, they determined he needed emergency surgery. They found a hole in his intestines and wanted to make sure no more were along the whole track. After the repair, they hospitalized him for the next 6 days.
On the 4th day, Jamie was informed that the Children’s Hospital is not covered by her insurance. However, they've received notice that her insurance company is covering the ER, surgery, and stay due to the emergency nature. Currently the bill is at $2200, with more to come.
And then Hurricane Matthew came through last week. While they were spared the flooding and tree damage, they did get a hole in their roof. They have homeowner’s insurance but there is always the deductible they have to pay. All out of pocket. All at the same time it seems.
We are asking for assistance to cover the medical bills and the out of pocket expense to replace their roof since all their savings have been depleted and the AC maxed out their only credit card.Note from the Organizer:
I'm going over Jamie's head a bit, and asking for the funds to also help cover the cost of the a/c replacement, so that they aren't quite as pinched if another emergency comes up. Thank you all!
