Portland's own Jakob Jay, our beloved DJ, Bishop's stylist, friend, and community member was viciously attacked two nights ago in Old Town, Portland, Oregon.
Account of Jakob's Attack
Jakob Jay was stabbed in the lobby of Pacific Towers early this week and is in a Portland hospital ICU. He is in critical condition, in a medically-induced coma, and awaiting further surgeries as of 10am on 5/11/17. At this time the attacker is at large and Jakob's family is fully cooperating with police during their investigation.
KATU coverage of family statement
His family is not accepting visitors at the hospital and their phones are being inundated with calls and texts which make it difficult to engage police and immediate family. They have a support network that is helping them and have asked friends to help raise funds to cover his medical costs and lost wages. At this time they are solely focused on his health and cooperating with the investigation.
Both Bishops and CC Slaughters are invested in their friend and co-worker and fully support all fundraising efforts to help Jakob get the care and expertise he needs. He does have health insurance through Bishops but he is responsible for 30% of the cost after meeting his deductible and out-of-pocket costs, which occurred within the first 24 hours.
This fundraiser will HOPEFULLY cover the following expenses:
1. His surgeries and stay in the ICU (Upwards of 10k/day)
2. Rehab, physical therapy, and mental health support
3. Lost wages from Bishops and his DJ'ing jobs
4. Rehoming expenses
5. His bills, debts, and unanticipated costs.
We are asking for your help as Jakob has a long road to recovery once he is out of the ICU. He has given us so much to be happy in our skin, feel beautiful when dancing, and enjoy what life has to offer. It's time to give back. Our Portland community is strong when we come together and the time is now. One of our artists needs us.
