In March 2012 Jacqueline decided to embark on a weight loss journey after reaching the heaviest she has ever been. She decided to take back the control and set a goal of losing more than 300 pounds. It was not an easy journey and I would say there were more "down" moments than "up" moments but with her persistence and determination, she has come to the end of her weight loss journey! Through diet and exercise alone, Jacqueline has lost more than 300 pounds! She not only lost the weight but she completely changed her lifestyle and her relationship with food.
The extra skin she would have due to the weight loss has been talked about since the beginning of her journey, and was something she was aware of. This kind of surgery is considered "cosmetic" and so it is NOT being covered by her insurance and we will have to pay out of pocket. The extra skin is causing her back and neck problems, irritations, and very severe headaches. On top of that, her self confidence is low because even though she has lost all of this weight, she still has the constant reminder of the past and how she used to be. It is a visual reminder everyday of what she has worked so hard to change.
She is needing to have this excess skin removed and it is estimated that the doctors will take off around 30 pounds of skin. She will be needing to have 3, possibly 4 surgeries to remove everything she has. These are very complicated procedures that I promise she would not be doing if she did not need them. The cost of her first surgery alone was $17,000. For all of the surgeries she will need, it will cost around $50,000. She had her first surgery on July 28, 2016 and it was a circumferential body lift with a “fleur de lies” because of the extreme amount of excess skin. Jacqueline has worked too hard to be told "no" or that “this is just cosmetic and you don't need it done.”
We are still fighting with the insurance company to have them help cover the cost of having these surgeries. We have been trying to save as much money as possible and finding ways to make extra money to be able to afford these surgeries. I know that neither of us like asking for help and I know that she would rather do everything on her own. However, she is such a huge example of what hard work, self discipline and determination looks like and we want to help her to feel comfortable in her own "skin" again. I know that she is more comfortable now with sharing her full weight loss story and she is helping others learn through her struggles and journey and helping them achieve their own goals. Any amount that you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and mean so much to us!
