The Story

On December 15th, Jace’s life was changed forever.  This vibrant boy’s trip home from basketball practice was cut short by a head on collision in Castle Rock.  He and his sister, Haevyn, were both rushed to the hospital.  All others involved in the accident walked away with minor injuries.  After three nights of observation, Haevyn was able to check out of the hospital with a fractured collar bone and extensive bruising, but no permanent physical injuries.

On the night of the accident, after multiple MRIs, concerns about spinal injury, and the need to correct internal bleeding, Jace was air lifted from Sky Ridge Medical Center to Children’s Hospital for further, critical treatment by pediatric specialists.  In the days that followed, Jace has remained strong through multiple surgeries and mounting uncertainty that he will ever walk again.

Jace has been surrounded by loving family, and will be spending his favorite holiday (Christmas) at Children’s Hospital.  His stay at Children’s Hospital will be followed by months of rehab.  His family, and especially his parents, will be in need of your support to help get through these coming, trying months.  Above all, we ask for your prayers and kind consideration.  If you are able to help with other acts of kindness, we are seeking gift cards to Dazbog Coffee, Noodles, Chipotle, King Soopers, Sams Club and any Marriott and Hyatt hotel points to allow family to have a warm shower and bed to sleep in that is a minute walk from Children’s would be greatly appreciated. A meal train is being set up as well for Jace's siblings at home. if you are able to help with meals or offer other forms of assistance please email the family at [email protected]  Please like “Jace’s Journey" page on Facebook to be kept up to date with posts from family and links to other ways to help.

Thank you,

Jace and Family

... and he’s home!
Jace was admitted to Children’s on 12/15 and discharged on 2/15. Jace was eager and determined to come home and because if his commitment to learning everything he could, he did it, he is ready to come home.
The next day after being home he met with his classroom teacher and classmates so he could explain his injury, he helped Rianna make tacos (his request) but most of all he was able to make it to his basketball teams game! This is the team Jace was practicing with the night of the accident. He’s full of love, hope and happiness.
Your support to his Journey is what keeps this little guy going, he’s aware of his Journey page, has read the posts and comments and just smiled.
Thank you!

This week has been a big one, Jace was told he will be getting released after Valentines's Day!!!! Less than 2 weeks Jace will be coming home :-)

Transfers into cars, strengthening balance, continuing to perform daily tasks with a little dependence as possible, Jace has shown the staff at Children's that he is ready.

Jace is excited to be home, be with his family, be with his dog Kylo, and hopefully begin to return to school a few hours a day. Pray that Jace continues to thrive and remains strong as he returns home.

Thank you all so much!

This is how we roll... Jace received a visit from two inspiring men from “This is how we roll” who shared not only their stories with Jace, but normalized the realities they face. Jace was a little nervous to meet them, but he eventually warmed up and felt comfortable asking questions. They told Jace, "people will stare" and "our friends will just crack jokes" but ultimately, "people realize we aren't "sick" we are different and different is good." Continuing to give Jace hope and acceptance of where he is right now with his injury. They told him about a summer camp for individuals with different abilities, Jace will definitely be attending that camp. They told Jace, he can swim, he can drive, he can continue to live life just as the rest of us.   Jace has continued to do an amazing job in therapy, from rolling over, to transferring from bed to chair and so forth. Jace misses his family, misses his home, misses his friends, misses his school, misses what he once knew as his normal life.   When Jace gets released from Children's, Jace will face a whole new level of realities, figuring out how to live in his new chair. With your contributions, Rianna has been able to make all necessary decisions to ensure Jace will the necessary tools to thrive, Jace will have a ramp already installed in the home, and Rianna is working with companies to get the bedroom and bathroom remodeled to accommodate Jace and his new normal.   I am in a wheelchair, it’s not who I am, It’s how I get around.
