The Story

The ICA board was pleased to launch the first ever ICA Capital Campaign at ClarinetFest® 2017 to endow and secure the future and continued success of our wonderful organization. Please help us continue this grassroots effort to raise money and secure our financial future so that we can be self-funded and continue to offer innovative ClarinetFest® conferences and first-rate opportunities for our members worldwide.

It is the hope of the ICA board that the Capital Campaign will not only help to secure the financial future and continued success of our international organization, but will also help those in need in the clarinet world. We especially seek to assist younger students who cannot afford membership, up-to-date equipment, young artist competitions fees or travel grants. Check out our donor wall and donations tab at www.clarinet.org.

Thank you to those who have already contributed. We know that if we do what is right, good things happen! Please be part of the movement!

One of our Capital Campaign initiatives is to provide funding for young clarinetists through ClarinetFest® travel grants. Support is provided for full time students and the amount of support depends on the student and available funding. In order to apply for a travel grant, please email the following items to executive director of operations Evan Lynch at [email protected].

1. Cover letter

2. Resume

3. Letter of support written by your teacher

The deadline to submit your materials is Friday, May 18, 2018. Travel grant winners will be notified no later than Friday, May 25, 2018 and all funds will be distributed as reimbursement following ClarinetFest® 2018.

The ICA is excited to announce the creation of the Harry Sparnaay Scholarship for aspiring young bass clarinetists. Part of the funds raised during our year-long capital campaign will go toward implementing an annual scholarship fund to send one young bass clarinetist to perform at ClarinetFest® each year (ages 18 to 30).

Interested applicants will need to send a resume, biography, essay, and recordings to ICA Treasurer, Tod Kerstetter. Details will be posted on the ICA ClarinetFest® page soon.

Also, a reminder that we are still seeking two clarinets for the Bill Cook Foundation. More information can be seen on our previous update.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to our campaign so far!

The ICA is excited to announce a new collaboration with the Bill Cook Foundation! Mr. Cook will donate $2,000 toward the purchase of a new professional line clarinet for a student in El Salvador, Yareed Castellanos, if the ICA matches his contribution. Please specify that your donation is "in support of Yareed" in order to raise these funds.

The Bill Cook foundation is also helping Casa Alianza in Guatemala City. This is a home for 60+ girls who have been rescued from being sexually trafficked and several have babies. They have a volunteer music teacher as part of their education and therapy. The teacher is looking to form a girls band and is in need of two clarinets. If anyone is able to donate an intermediate/beginner clarinet to this home, DHL will ship the package free of charge. You may also donate money and specify that it should go toward the purchase of these two clarinets.

We are hopeful this new collaboration with the Bill Cook Foundation will connect students in need with clarinets all over the world!
