The Story

The ICA board was pleased to launch the first ever ICA Capital Campaign at ClarinetFest® 2017 to endow and secure the future and continued success of our wonderful organization. Please help us continue this grassroots effort to raise money and secure our financial future so that we can be self-funded and continue to offer innovative ClarinetFest® conferences and first-rate opportunities for our members worldwide.

It is the hope of the ICA board that the Capital Campaign will not only help to secure the financial future and continued success of our international organization, but will also help those in need in the clarinet world. We especially seek to assist younger students who cannot afford membership, up-to-date equipment, young artist competitions fees or travel grants. Check out our donor wall and donations tab at www.clarinet.org.

Thank you to those who have already contributed. We know that if we do what is right, good things happen! Please be part of the movement!

The ICA is proud to support young and upcoming clarinetists. The Young Artist Competition winner from ClarinetFest® 2017, Sunho Song, will be performing in a recital at ClarinetFest® 2018. Enjoy this brief interview with Sunho as we eagerly await his upcoming performance:

1) When and why did you start playing the clarinet?

I started the playing clarinet when I was around 12. At first, the clarinet was just a small hobby for me but the love towards the instrument grew bigger and bigger and became my passion.

2) Who are your biggest musical influences?

My biggest musical influence is Charles Neidich.

3) What was your preparation process for the Young Artist Competition?

For the Young Artist Competition, I had to prepare pieces with characters that are distinct from each other. So, my main focus in the preparation process was to portray and deliver the different expressions and characters the pieces own to the listeners.

4) Any advice for someone wishing to enter?

You should definitely do it! The process of preparing and playing in the competition will be a rewarding experience and you get to hear other fantastic clarinetists who will inspire you.

5) What does it mean to you to be invited as a soloist to ClarinetFest® 2018 in Ostend, Belgium?

Getting invited as a soloist to ClarinetFest 2018 is a dream come true for me. It is a tremendous pleasure to get invited to the festival and take part of it with great artists who I have great respect to. I am very excited to share my music in Ostend, Belgium and have the chance to listen to all the amazing and inspiring clarinetists in the festival!
