A soccer coach in Idaho gets a racist note that uses vile slurs to denigrate the boys on his team.
Our first reaction was outrage which quickly morphed into a desire for action. The boys in Idaho Juniors FC (IJFC) need to see that for every coward writing racist notes, there are thousands of us who are ready to give a red card to racism and support those different than us.We're fundraising to bring the kids of Idaho Juniors FC to Minnesota so they can participate in the USA Cup.
The USA Cup (held in Blaine, Minnesota between July 17 - 21) is a prestigious youth soccer tournament that brings together teams from around the globe. We want the kids of IJFC to meet their counterparts from all over the world and play in this tournament. Jeromy Tarkon, the President of Idaho Juniors FC has accepted our proposal. After crunching the numbers, we have come up with a fundraising goal of $24,000 that will allow us to bring IJFC to the USA Cup.
Your donation of any amount will help us bring Idaho Juniors FC to the USA Cup! Please give towards our goal by clicking the 'Donate Now' button. Will you contribute?
What does the fundraiser cover?
Our fundraising budget covers airfare, tournament registration fees, room & board in the tournament dorm, a visit to a Minnesota United FC game, laundry during the tournament and shipping/luggage fees necessary for a soccer team traveling between states. We are reaching out to organizations that could sponsor or subsidize parts of these expenses; if this outreach is successful, we will send an update and reduce our fundraising goal accordingly. Any additional funds we raise in excess of our goal will be given to an accredited charity selected in conjunction with Jeromy Tarkon, director of Idaho Juniors FC.
Who will be traveling from Idaho for the tournament?
Idaho Juniors FC will bring a team of 16 U-11 boys players, 3 coaches and 2 additional adult chaperones. The total cohort will be 21 travelers.
Who is organizing this fundraiser?
Two soccer fans like you who wanted to inspire the kids of IJFC:
Nachiket Karnik - I'm a marketing professional in Saint Paul, MN. Soccer is my happy place and I'd like to have it play that role for others too! I absolutely love how the sport brings together people with otherwise disparate backgrounds.
Bridget McDowell - I am a health club manager and soccer blogger based in St Paul, MN. This game's universal appeal, and its ability to bring together people of all walks of life, drew me in. Finding a second family in the stands and the soccer community has made me a fan for life. I want to share this game's unifying power any way I can.
My company/organization wants to participate with a group donation or sponsorship of another sort. What can we do?
We'd love to hear your ideas for how you would like to be involved. Please use the 'Contact Organizer' link below to get in touch and Nachiket will respond right away.
What will happen to funds raised beyond that needed by Idaho Juniors FC at the USA Cup?
After the team has finished their trip to the USA Cup, any additional funds left over will be donated to an accredited charity picked in conjunction with Jeromy Tarkon of Idaho Juniors FC.
What happens if you fall short of they money needed to bring IJFC to Minnesota?
We're confident we'll hit our fundraising goal. But, in the event we do fall short, the contingency plan is to use the funds to send Idaho Juniors FC to a regional tournament (or tournaments) where the overall cost of attendance is lower. Help us make sure we don't have to use this contingency plan by making your donation of any amount!
Will you send us updates?
Yes! YouCaring allows us to send updates to donors which we plan to do all the way through the end of the USA Cup. We also plan to send updates via Twitter and Facebook accounts created specifically for this fundraiser.
