The Story

Pines Presbyterian Church is located in the heart of West Houston, where people from all walks of life find a kind place to worship, experiencing the joy of being in a family of faith. Pines has been touched in a deep way by the love of Jesus Christ. Responding to that love, we reach out in ministry; grow in faith; build healthy and wholesome relationships; provide help during difficult times; and live each day in the fullness of God's grace.

Pines is collecting funds to support local Hurricane Harvey disaster victims.  100% of all proceeds received will go directly to disaster relief.  This includes short term needs (housing, food) and long-term needs (rebuilding).

Greetings Pines Family,

WOW, God was so amazing today!!! I was overwhelmingly blessed by how many people were able to join us for worship today. As I walked through the Narthex and the Fellowship Hall hallway ,I was so pleased to see large groups of people standing and talking; sharing stories of how they had made it through the week and how they were going to face the days ahead. I had to laugh when the time came for worship to begin and large numbers of people were still milling about sharing their stories. It was a marvelous sight to see so we just started worship a little late.

The worship service was amazing with so many people joining us for our "casual" worship. People were dressed in t-shirts, shorts, jeans, whatever they were able to wear. They came just to be together and it didn't matter what they wearing. The pastoral staff even was casual in our jeans, and I was proud to wear the boots Pines gave to me on my first Sunday. The music, liturgy, prayers and the Lord's Supper were so meaningful and touching, and really spoke to our hearts and how we were feeling.

Following worship, we had one of the largest pot-luck lunches we've ever had! So much amazing food... so much amazing love poured over those lunch tables today. It was a wonderful site seeing so many people sharing their experiences and looking for more ways to serve. We had so much food left over that we packaged it up and delivered it to the Sherwood Elementary students and their families. These Title 1 students have not been able to receive their breakfasts and lunches because school has been canceled.

Today truly showed me the love of God and the hope for tomorrow is alive and strong at Pines. Thank you for a wonderful day!

Standing together in His service,

Pastor Andy

Dear Pines Family,

Today was an inspiring day and a difficult day. Difficult because we continue to add to the number of families who have been flooded out or displaced.  I have been inspired by the number of people who continue to contact me wanting to help and the folks who have quickly responded to the needs of those who are getting back into their homes. Today "Care Responders" went to two homes and helped with moving furniture, pulling up carpet and removing drywall. They did a great job and I am thankful for their willingness to serve!

Tomorrow the work will continue as we seek ways to serve our community. The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance team will be on our campus talking to us about how can partner with them in the recovery efforts. We will also continue to take calls and emails from those who will need our "Care Responders" to join them in the clean-up efforts.

I am so proud to be a Houstonian, and thankful to be a child of our creator God! I continue to be amazed at how this city has pulled together to help one and other, and how God continues to work graciously and majestically through people around he world. Today I received a call from someone in Northern Ireland telling me he and his family were praying for us. I then saw on our donation site the following note:

I'm sitting in my dry house and praying for the people affected by Harvey.   As a fellow Presbyterian in NC, I wanted to do something, so I googled and found your church and knew my donation could help through your efforts. Best to all.

Even in the midst of what we might see as darkness, God brings bright shining lights! Thanks be to God.

Standing together in His service,

Pastor Andy
