Dear Pines Family,
Today was an inspiring day and a difficult day. Difficult because we continue to add to the number of families who have been flooded out or displaced. I have been inspired by the number of people who continue to contact me wanting to help and the folks who have quickly responded to the needs of those who are getting back into their homes. Today "Care Responders" went to two homes and helped with moving furniture, pulling up carpet and removing drywall. They did a great job and I am thankful for their willingness to serve!
Tomorrow the work will continue as we seek ways to serve our community. The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance team will be on our campus talking to us about how can partner with them in the recovery efforts. We will also continue to take calls and emails from those who will need our "Care Responders" to join them in the clean-up efforts.
I am so proud to be a Houstonian, and thankful to be a child of our creator God! I continue to be amazed at how this city has pulled together to help one and other, and how God continues to work graciously and majestically through people around he world. Today I received a call from someone in Northern Ireland telling me he and his family were praying for us. I then saw on our donation site the following note:
I'm sitting in my dry house and praying for the people affected by Harvey. As a fellow Presbyterian in NC, I wanted to do something, so I googled and found your church and knew my donation could help through your efforts. Best to all.
Even in the midst of what we might see as darkness, God brings bright shining lights! Thanks be to God.
Standing together in His service,
