The Story

Usually when I get ready for bed my routine tends to be mundane. I plug my phone in, set the alarm, read a few passages on the YouVersion app followed by stealing my wife's pillow. Last night wasn't as mundane.  Due to my self-diagnosed insomnia, I decided since I can't sleep I'll just update myself on some FB news. As I scrolled through posts, I came across a catching photo. It was a young teenage boy holding a small teddy bear with the biggest smile on his face. To the left were two Airmen leaning in for the photoshoot. I looked at the top to see who posted it. My heart sank. It was my cousin. They just received news that their 15 year old boy has stage 4B Hodgkins Lymphoma. Below is the story of how their last few days have played out.

Background: DEC 31 to JAN 3 2018
New Years Eve Hunter was having some aches and pains with a slight fever and cough. He wasn't his active self so Cheryl (Mom) brought him in to the clinic. The clinic didn't run any tests and said is was likely a virus. They went home with meds but the next day his symptoms progressed. Cheryl brought him back in to the clinic and this time they said the progression was likely an allergic reaction to the medication and not to worry, just stop taking the meds and "let the virus run it's course". They advised Cheryl and Ronnie (Dad) if they were still concerned they could see a pediatrician. After exhausting all patience, they saw the pediatrician who ordered a CAT-SCAN. The CAT-SCAN revealed that Hunter's lung was not only collapsed but contained a large amount of fluid. In addition, he had severely swollen lymph nodes. Diagnosis: Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Currently (JAN 5th 2018):
After receiving chest tubes and the continuous draining of built-up fluid (3-liters and counting), another test revealed that his heart too has fluid surrounding it. Without chemotherapy (CMT), the cancer in his lymph nodes will continue to produce fluid. He is due for another test in the morning and looks like CMT will begin tomorrow.

REASON FOR SPONSOR:
Ronnie and Cheryl run their own business to support their "Brady Bunch" (7 children). Due to Hunter being in ICU, they have been out of work this whole week and predictably weeks to come. With such a large family and given their circumstance, I sensed the need to help such a deserving family. Those who know the "Brady Bunch" know how hard it is for them to accept help from others. They are always on the giving end not the receiving. Hunter is spiritually gifted and hears GOD's promises. His courage and demeanor is a testimony to his faith. If you speak or write to Hunter, you will be in for a blessing and a life lesson; young or old.

Whether or not you are able to financially support, please pray for Hunter's Health and the Brady's financial needs!

Update for Hunter: Last night he started the first day of chemo. Unfortunately, one of the medications caused him to go into anaphylaxis reaction. They grabbed the crash cart and was saying "he's going to code". His heart rate dropped dangerously low, high blood pressure bottomed out, he turned as red as a serious sunburn, he couldn't breath and he had severe stomach pain. Thank God for all of your prayers, because he had a guardian angel on his shoulder. The team here jumped into acting and brought him out of it quickly.

Unfortunately, he has to get that same medication again today after being premedicated. Please pray that this reaction doesn't happen again. It scared 10 years off of my life. They will be starting the day 2 of chemo shortly.

Thank you prayer Warriors and Thank God in Heaven for intervening for Hunter and that the bone marrow was negative for Cancer!!!

Update for Hunter:

Hunter is stable and no longer in immediate danger. He must remain in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with the drain from his heart and until after the first round of Chemo. There has been a slight delay in getting that started, but Thankfully they will be starting his Chemo this evening. We look at this as one step closer to having Hunter home with us. This has been difficult for us, but we got this! Thank you for all the love and support! We love all of you!!!❤❤❤😘
