The Hinesburg Youth Project is a group of young adults grades 8 and above led by Jared Hamilton, the pastor of the United Church of Hinesburg. Though the group meets and is led by members of the church, it is a non-faith based group focused on building awareness for social issues and challenges. The group has gone on two service trips the past two summers focusing on prevalent issues in today's society, and providing their service to worthy organizations. The first summer (2016) the group went to New York City to explore urban poverty and food insecurity. They worked with various organizations and non-profits that provide food and services for homeless and food insecure people. The next summer (2017) they went to the Boston/Salem Massachusetts area where they explored social justice issues, and were able to be immersed in many educational and service opportunities. This summer, the ever-growing group plans to travel to Puerto Rico to help with hurricane relief. The youth has been putting in major fundraising efforts, but donations would be extremely helpful to accommodate the expensive costs of travel.
