EVERYONE DESERVES A GOOD BOOK
Please help purchase a book for every kid at Garnet Elementary School in Chestertown, Maryland.
Garnet is a Title 1 school full of amazing, deserving kids, 60 percent of whom are from low-income families, and most of whom are from limited means. In spite of extraordinary vision and effort from its dedicated teachers and administrators, Garnet is badly underfunded, meaning few opportunities for the types of co-curricular programming that add excitement and context to classroom learning.
Garnet relies on outside support for assemblies and programs that give these deserving kids much-needed opportunities for mentorship and inspiration—and a better chance for success in the classroom and in life.
The books are part of a larger effort by author/illustrator, husband/wife duo Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr, who plan to use the donated books as a platform for spending a full day working directly with the kids of Garnet—covering subjects that range from careers in the arts, the benefits of collaboration, and the importance of observation and storytelling.
Swanson and Behr will give two assemblies, one focused on their picture book Everywhere, Wonder (for pre-K–2nd graders)—and another focused on their illustrated middle-grade mystery The Real McCoys (for 3rd-5th graders).
The author and illustrator will also visit each Garnet classroom to hand out books, give high-fives, answer questions, and run workshops meant to encourage observation, creative thinking, and collaboration. (Swanson and Behr will donate their time. 100% of funds raised will go toward purchasing books.)
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING THE CHILDREN OF GARNET ELEMENTARY!
Books can inspire the imagination, stimulate curiosity, and increase academic performance. Direct contact with professional artists can help children realize the possibility of their own potential to imagine and create.
Help share the wonder!
