Right here, right now in our community someone is considering suicide. In fact, suicide is the third leading cause of death for young people between the ages of 10 and 24. It has to stop and the way we are going to that is to create awareness. So how will we do that? We will start with a 5k, "Run for brAvery" race in memory of Avery Cantor--a high school honor student, athlete, and peer leader who committed suicide last May, shortly after being diagnosed with severe depression. We are teaming up with the Lafayette Men's Lacrosse team on this event to strategically reach high school students and families.
A majority of the proceeds will go to the CHADS Coalition, an organization that focuses on suicide prevention with children and teens. The remaining proceeds will go back to Lafayette Lacrosse. CHADS will use the monies to continue funding for it's many projects that help educate people about suicide prevention. Lafayette Lacrosse will use it's monies to continue funding it's scholarship program and subsidize the costs of team related fees.
We need your support. Would you be willing to donate towards this worth cause? Every little bit can make a difference. Please know that our youth are struggling, perhaps even your own children; but, there is hope and support. If we can teach our children what to do and how to get help, as well as alleviate their anxiety about asking for help, we can change the statistics. Help us start a conversation and erase the stigma. Please be part of this fundraiser; it's a life-saving effort.
Please note that we are not a 501c3. Any tax deductible donations should be made payable to the CHADS Coalition, and mailed to the following recepient: 16024 Manchester Rd, Ellisville, MO 63011.
