As my sister Carrie just reminded me that the running may be done but not our journey. We are continuing to raise money for the Barden Family and plan to present it to them over the Thanksgiving holiday. Helping them to be able to start a non-profit foundation in Daniel's name makes all of our hard work worth it!! Stay tuned...
WE DID IT!!! Finished 26.2 miles in 4hrs 22 minutes with Team Daniel cheering us on the whole way! The weather was perfect and we were feeling great.. Until around mile 22 when my legs started revolting. But that is where the mental stamina and motivation to help the Bardens kicks in and drives us across that finish line. Our long journey is sadly over but we have done to help the Bardens will last a lifetime!! Thank you all so much!
2 days to go! The warners just arrived in DC and the pre-race preparations are underway! The fundraising continues, with Carrie organizing an amazing event in Ridgefield last night that raised $6000!! We will keep the site open for another week or two as the donations are still coming in strong. The local news has gotten wind of our story and are featuring us during the marathon coverage. The support from family, friends, co-workers and friends of friends has been truly amazing and quite humbling and we LOVE it! The Barden family will use this money for a foundation they are starting in Daniel's name, so all of this support will go to an even bigger cause!
We will keep you posted on the events!
Just over one week to go till the big day!!! We had of a bit of scare with a threat of cancelling the race due to the government shutdown but now we are good to go!!
We are just doing some easy runs this next week and trying to stay healthy and injury free.
We have quite a cheering squad coming dressed in Sandy Hook green who will be on the sideline throughout the course motivating us along the whole 26.2 miles!
My sister Carrie is organizing a fundraiser at Ridgefield's favorite bar the Ancient Mariner for Thursday the 25th. Please stop by if you are in the area.
Jeff and I are also being 'featured' on Comcast Sportsnet who caught our story. We are being interviewed Monday and the show will be aired next Friday. Any attention we can give to our cause is welcome!!
Thanks again everyone - we have far exceeded our donation expectations!!
Less than 3 weeks to go until the race and we are ready! Finished our long runs and now onto the long awaited taper... Now we just have to make sure we stay healthy for the big day.
The Bardens have asked to use our donations towards a non-profit they are setting up in Daniel's name. All of your generosity will go towards something that will last and do great things for the kids and community.
Thanks again everone and keep spreding the word!!
Jeff and I want to extend our warmth thanks and great appreciation for all the support we have gotten so far! The donations have already way surpassed our expectations. The race is just under 5 weeks away and we are just reaching our peak mileage before we start the much desired taper. Thanks again for everyone's generosity and inspiring words! Helps us more than you know...
We have 50 days until the race and hit the big milestone of running 18 miles today. We still have a long way to go but getting to this point makes our goal of running 26.2 within reach! The Ridgefield Press has a nice article about our mission in this week's paper. With separate donations I have received at work and in the mail we have raised $6500!! Thank you so much!
The marathon is 2 months from today and Jeff and I have been working hard but still have a long way to go to get ready for our 26 mile run. So far we have raised $5300, including this website and separate donations I have received... That is incredible!!! My co-workers have held fund raisers and bake sales and have contributed quite a bit.. So thank you!!
School started in Sandy Hook and my heart goes outnto the kids and their fMilies that they have a safe, happy year!!
I just wanted to give everyone an update....training is underway but has been challenging in this heat. So we get up really early on weekends for the longer runs and bring a lot of water. We are still early so have not gotten in the 'long runs' yet but the race is 3 months away so will start increasing our mileage weekiy. Thanks again for all the support!!! It is worth every mile we run!!
The Washington Post published an article featuring the Bardens and their daily struggle since losing their son Daniel in the Sandy Hook tragedy 6 months ago. The article is heartbreaking and has made me more determined to do everything I can to help this special family. The race is 4 months away and we are well passes halfway to our fundraising goal. Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive. Run on!!
