Virginia was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cervical cancer in July 2012, a week before her daughter turned a year old. Her son was three. After going through treatment she was declared to be in remission, however her first three month check-up led to one scan and then another, which revealed the cancer had metastasized. Despite now living with Stage IV cancer Ginny is determined to live for herself and her family. Not only is she raising her two children with her husband, Geoff, she is finishing school in midwifery and atthending births while undergoing new rounds of chemotherapy treatment. Many of us know what it is like to raise two young children while working or going to school at the same time. Most of us don't know what it's like to do that while living with and around and right in the middle of a Stage IV cancer diagnosis.
I want us to give Ginny and Geoff a weekend together to connect and recharge. A weekend to go out to dinners and buy Christmas presents for their children or for themselves. A weekend to feel spoiled during a time in their lives when they probably feel anything but spoiled. Most importantly though, a memory to hold close and retreat to whenever they want.
This is a site to raise money for that weekend. I want to give them the gift of a two-night stay at the Arbor House in Madison, gift cards to a couple restaurants and stores in the area, and if possible, a gift card for a massage or spa. I would love to also provide something special to their children and even their pets, so they know this community has thought about all the members of their famiily. These are my ideas, but if you have specific ideas for ways to make this a special weekend for them, please email them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I would love to hear them!
