The Story

in the wake of relentless anti-black violence, healing spaces are currently being created in seattle by black organizers.

this is an opportunity for non-black people to financially support black-led healing spaces.  the intention of this organizing effort is to support black healing, so that folks in the midst of grief, terror, and rage can receive community support. the value behind this work is to back up the power & leadership of black organizing for healing, justice, and liberation.

all funds raised will be transferred directly to black organizers who are creating healing spaces in seattle. donations are currently being collected and tracked by bean yogi (a non-black person of color) and a small team of NBPOC volunteers. all money raised and distributed will be documented & available to view for transparency. if you have concerns about these fundraising efforts, please contact bean yogi ([email protected]).

initially, a healing space was being organized for 7/14/16, primarily for black folks (with non-black people of color being welcomed to attend & support). however, in the spirit of moving forward with intention, care, and more connection, the event in its initial form is being re-organized. instead, on thursday, july 14th at 6:30pm, black folks will gather in the central district to have a more intimate, informal discussion and visioning of healing spaces that are needed and wanted.  if you are a black person who wants to be part of this dialogue, please contact bean yogi ([email protected]) for details.

deep appreciations to everyone who has contributed so far, including those who have pledged in-kind donations of food, labor, logistical support, and healing services.

currently, our efforts to create a radical healing space for black folks in seattle are being focused on meeting the needs identified by trans & queer black people.  based on those who are directing & visioning our space so far, this may be manifesting as a physical space (tentatively scheduled for thursday, 7/14/16 at 6:00pm).  we are also getting connected to two separate black-organized healing spaces that are being created in seattle; if requested, the funds & resources of this organizing effort will be re-directed there.  our intention in gathering is to back up the power of black organizers in this town, and to show up in the ways that we are asked to.  updates will be made as soon as details are confirmed.

thanks again for your support and willingness to contribute.  if you have questions, concerns, or black-led invitations to support black healing spaces, please contact [email protected]
