The Story

Last summer, my friends and I created and ran a camp called Project Cay for the local children of Governors Harbour, in conjunction with the Haynes Library. This summer, we would like to expand the programme to take on more children. We need to raise money to purchase sports equipment, art supplies, games and to provide the children with lunch and snacks each day.

On an isolated small island as this children have few opportunities for organised play during the holidays.  As parents have little or no means to pay for any activities the library plays a vital role in looking after and educating these children.  If I raise more than I plan, I would like to help purchase text books for the children for the following school year.

I plan to walk the length of Eleuthera, a total of 100 miles, over the course of a few days in January.  Please sponsor me in my efforts !

Day 4 – Final Day

The LAST day! I had the luxury of an extra hour of sleep before heading north to Gregory Town for the last 20 miles at 6.30.   It was a rainy, windy day, which made the walk more bearable though Lower and Upper Bogue seemed endless. We managed a short jog through the settlement to avoid the attention of a romantic drunk to finally arrive in Bluff at 1.15. We were greeted by my Mum and Diane, flying flags, blowing horns and generally embarrassing themselves. I do have to say I have never been so pleased to see anyone. I want to say thank you to Fraser for his drone photography along the way and all his time. A big thank you to my Dad who joined me for the first 30 miles and to Zoe for 3 days of endless laughter. Thanks also to Henry.   And love to my Mum and Diane for support, food, water and clean socks along the way. Thank you everyone for all the words of encouragement and having the faith in me to finish this long walk as there were moments I felt like collapsing.

We spent an hour bandaging our feet this morning.  Two pairs of socks, duct tape and "Trail Toes" prepared us for another 25 miles today.  Finally an overcast, windy day made walking a little more bearable especially with all the hills on this stretch.  I've never been happier to see Gregory Town.  Nearly there !  This is so much harder than I thought it would be.

Day 2

Another early start.  Thank you Zoe for joining me and keeping me company for the next 70 miles.   It was another steamy day with little shade and blisters starting.   Thank you to everyone at the Haynes Library for coming out to cheer me on. My feet were ready to drop off.  Fraser and his drone followed us  as we left Governors and headed north.  Another 28 miles completed.  Spent the night icing my feet.
