Every dollar you donate to Habitat for Humanity through this Fundraiser will be MATCHED dollar for dollar and used to get families displaced by the Sonoma County Wildfires back into their neighborhoods and on their property.
Habitat is spearheading a program to build temporary “Tiny Homes” to enable low income and financially challenged fire survivors to live on their own property and minimize their expenses as they work through the process of rebuilding their permanent home. Once a home is built and the family moves in, the Tiny Home is moved to the next family in need (and there are many). For the Tiny Home program to be successful, Habitat needs to build pile of Tiny Homes. And fast.
Meet the donors making the match:
Every dollar that we raise will be matched-up to 120,000 dollars!
Hi, we're Patti & John. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate that our Glen Ellen home was spared in the disastrous Sonoma County fires. While we are of course relieved, we are deeply saddened for all of those now devastated by the loss of their homes, businesses and treasured possessions. We want to redirect our stroke of luck to those who have suffered so much loss and are now displaced and face the daunting financial burden of rebuilding with very limited resources. With so many options in the area offering opportunities to contribute financial support, we were at a bit of a loss of where best to focus our energies. This past summer, we worked with Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County on its Aging in Place program. Our project was focused on helping a senior undergoing cancer treatment clean up his overgrown yard that he was no longer able to maintain. It is a great program and we were impressed with Habitat’s goals of helping those in need to remain living in their own homes. We reached out to our contact at Habitat to see what they were doing in response to the fires and to better understand the scale of the devastation and depth of the needs of families affected by this disaster. When we learned of the Tiny Home program we were inspired by the vision of providing economic relief to survivors and helping them regain a sense of place, normalcy, home and dignity. And with that the Sonoma Fire Survivors Tiny Home Challenge matching pledge was born to get this program started immediately.
