The Story

Cancer is a demon that sneaks up on you.  It prowls in silence, eating away at your body.  Many times you don't know it is there, and that was the case with Station Chief, Guy Johnson.
Guy has been a fire fighter since 1993 working his way up the ranks.  It is his passion in life to be able to help people. He has had many challenges in life, including supporting his wife while she battled breast cancer.  The demon touched her life and now it has the audacity to touch his.  She beat her fight and now he is going to beat his.
Guy turned 50 last year and decided to have a complete physical. His doctor ordered a colonoscopy. He went in thinking that this was just going to be an inconvenience for a couple days.  But that was not the case.
The doctor told him he had colon cancer.  It wasn't an normal colon cancer on only one side of his colon.  This cancer was more rare, on both sides of his colon. The surgeon took 2/3rds of his colon. The lymph nodes were tested and some of them also tested positive.  Chemotherapy was recommended. Chemotherapy consists of one treatment every two weeks for six months. In addition to that, at the end of his treatment in the clinic they attach a pump to him so stronger chemicals can be pumped into his body over 46 hours.
During this time, Guy's wife has taken time off from work to care for him.  The loss of income has caused a hardship financially. Now the medical bills are coming in. Although they have insurance, it is still a huge expense.  He is only half way through the treatments at this time.
Fire fighters have long been known as heroes. Guy has definitely been a hero for many people.  He is a humble. kind person who would never think of asking anyone else for help. That's why I am asking you, if you are able, to help him and his family financially.

It has been awhile since I have posted an update.  Today was chemo treatment #9. Only 3 treatments left!! This makes us very happy.

I really don't know what to say.  The outpouring of love has been humbling.  This hasn't been an easy journey so far.  There have been allergic reactions and terrible side effects. Through it all we have a core of friends and family who have supported us.  It has been amazing.

Today I made another payment of $1000.00.  Because I paid one of the bills is full and on time the hospital gave us a discount.  Our next payment is due at the end of December.  If we can pay it in full by then, they will give us another discount.  The next bill will come to a little under $2500.00. If you have already donated, thank you so very much.  If you can't donate, if you could please share the heck out of this post so we can raise $2500.00 in the next month.  It would be such a great relief to be able to get it taken care of.

Thank you so much, everyone, for the prayers and support.  Thank you to everyone who has donated or participated in any event to help raise money for these bills, travel expenses and time off from work we both have had to take.  We love you all.

It has been awhile since I have posted.  Guy has Chemo again on Tuesday November 14th.  We are praying that he doesn't catch the flu that is going around and that his platelets don't drop. Either of these would delay the treatment and we want NO delays.  We feel blessed with the positive lab results every time we go.  He hasn't lost any more significant weight for a few weeks.  The doctors and nurses are very happy about this.

Please share this page if you would.  We did make a nice payment last time we were at the hospital and would like to do that again in the next month. We still have several treatments left to go, but each one is one less. If all goes according to plan, Guy will have his last treatment in January.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, either on this site or in person.  We appreciate every donation we get, no matter the amount.  Every dollar helps.

Everyone have a great day.

Guy and Pam

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated or shared this page. We are humbled by the response from our family and friends. November 2nd is Guy's 6th chemo treatment. We will be on the down hill side of these nasty things. We are so excited. However, November 1st is Guy's 51st birthday!! We celebrate life daily now, but this birthday is very special. If you have considered donating for medical bills, it would be a great birthday gift for Guy!!!! If you can't donate at this time, please share this post to all of your friends. Maybe one of them can donate. Any donation is greatly appreciated. We hope everyone has a great day. Live life to the fullest and love like there is no tomorrow. Thanks again everyone.
