My father, Gurmukh Singh, is a loving father, husband, and son who, on May 8, went in with my mother, sister, and me for a regularly scheduled ICE check-in in Santa Ana, California. ICE agents arrested and detained my father in front of my traumatized family and took him to the Adelanto Detention Facility where he is currently imprisoned.
My father is a Sikh Indian immigrant who came to the United States in 1998 seeking asylum for persecution of his faith. He has tried to do the right thing at every turn and followed all the rules in seeking to stay in the United States. Yet, he has been cruelly separated from my family and faces the serious threat of deportation.
My father’s detention is devastating for my entire family who do not know how we will make ends meet. My father is a taxi driver and our family’s main breadwinner. He cares for my U.S. citizen mother who has health problems, my elderly and ailing grandparents, and my sister and I who are 15 and 18 year old U.S. citizens.
Please donate now to support my family. We need help with basic necessities (housing and food) and with legal fees and costs. Every bit helps. Please donate today.
