The Story

Gundermann Acres is a 500 acre vegetable farm in Wharton, Tx. Recently, along with many others along the Texas coast, we have been hit by one of the worst floodings in US history. The storm itself caused a lot of damage, however, the aftermath was even worse. The Colorado river is just a couple miles from both our farm and our home. On August 29th, the Colorado river started flooding. It completely covered our farm, in some places as much as 10ft. We pretty much lost everything. Contrary to what most people think, vegetable farmers cannot get crop insurance. Therefore, everything we do is a risk we take with no guarantees we will even make a crop. That same night, we were awakened by the tv news anchors naming our subdivision as one of the ones that needed to get out immediately.
On August 30, the very next day after losing everything on the farm, our home flooded. In the end, the river rose to over 50ft, something it hasn't done since 1913.
In less than a year we have had a barn fire, a major freeze where we lost 80% of our crops and now this...
We have never asked for help but so many people have been wanting to help us and asking how and where to do that...We are humbled and so amazingly blessed to have people that want to help us out in such a horrible situation. You will never know how much this truly means to us. :)
