The Story

Jose Luis Sanchez-Ronquillo was detained on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. The Ann Arbor community is rallying to fight for his return to the community that cares for him and his family. As we wait for final news, we are continuing to gather funds to support the family, hoping that we don't face the worst case scenario.

Jose Luis has lived in Ann Arbor for nearly 20 years and has two boys in the Ann Arbor Public School District. His Eldest Jose Luis Jr. is a freshman at Pioneer High School and his youngest is a 5th grader at Bach Elementary. They are faithful members of St. Mary Student Parish. The Sanchez-Ronquillo family faces the loss not only of a husband and father but a their main bread winner. We are asking your help in raising money for Guisela to use in upcoming expenses such as rent, food, and transportation. The funds may also be used for possible additional legal fees.

We appreciate your support in this difficult and painful loss for the Bach, Pioneer, St. Mary's communities and Ann Arbor in general. Donate what you can.

Thank you once again for you supporting!

6/14/2017:
José Luis Sanchez-Ronquillo just recently was returned to Michigan. He is now in Monroe County Jail detention center. We don't know for sure, but we assume this is in preparation for his hearing before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA). His attorneys are still fighting for him to remain in the community and with his family.
Stop Trump will be holding a rally at the Monroe Detention Center this Saturday June 17th. From 3pm to 5pm. I know this is just a super busy time, with school ending and summer schedules ramping up, and yet we need to show that we are still watching out for our friend and community member. If you are able to come even for an 1 hour, it will help!

I want to thank you for your support so far. The Bach, Pioneer, St. Mary's and Ann Arbor community in general has been amazing. Through your help, we were able to raise $3,795 for the family. Around $1000 has gone to legal fees and bus transportation to the rally at his hearing in Detroit. The rest has gone to the family.
I spoke to Charlie (5th grade) after school Tuesday and he is happy that his father is at least in the same state. He is still a little guy and I often see him grow serious, and I know he worries. I would too. Guisela, is hopeful as well, and does not tire of expressing how thankful she is of the love and support she has received.  Please, know you have made a huge difference to this family!
IMPORTANT:
Please, feel free to spread the news and ask those who may be interested and willing to help.

Dear Friends,

We have received a temporary stay for Jose Luis on emergency appeal to the 6th District Court in Detroit! His attorney's efforts have given us more time! His appeal will be heard near the end of the month. Thank you for your support thus far. Your contributions are going to offset the fees that Jose Luis' attorneys are incurring. As things settle down we will look to identify other ways your contributions can support the Sanchez-Ronquillo family.

Hopefully yours,
Leticia Valdez
