The Story

"Frodo" is a stray intact male dog that was found in Castro Valley on July 4, 2017. He has almost no hair, thick crusty skin, and several sores on various parts of his body. He looks quite elderly. Initially he would trip and fall often causing the sore on his face to bleed. He also had a severe flea infestation in the little clumps of hair he did have. We took him to the veterinarian on July 5 where he was checked for a microchip (none found), given an exam, antibiotics, deworming and flea meds, and a rabies vaccination. He was also given skin conditioner and wipes to treat the infection in his skin. He will possibly need a geriatric work-up and fecal testing in the near future.
Since finding him, Frodo is more stable on his feet and energetic. His sores are quickly healing. He didn't care too much for his bath but loves snuggling in his blanket. Thank you for any support you can give to help cover his veterinary bills. Hopefully we can find him a furever home once he is healed and he can live the remaining time of his life healthy and happy.

Hello Frodo fans! Life gets busy and I apologize for such an overdue update on this little guy. Frodo had a serious corneal ulcer in his left eye in the fall but with lots of medical care we have been able to save his eye and not remove it. We are hopeful that it will continue to scar well and remain intact. He has also been put on Cushings medication and continues to be on thyroid meds. I have to laugh because this guy has an ophthalmologist and an internal medicine vet who he is receiving care from. I’m sure they see many beautiful purebred dogs but they both just love little Frodo and treat him like a king!  Frodo continues to have limited hair (except around his cute little face) and is active and happy. Sweaters and jackets do a good job at keeping him warm and his little naked body covered. :). His little antenna-looking tail is always busy wagging. When he is not napping he is busy looking for, or playing with, one of his favorite toys. He is definitely getting a new chance at life and is loving it!

Thank you all for making this new life for him a reality. If it wasn’t for all of your encouraging words and financial support I’m not sure if I would have been able to give him the care he needed. Now that I have seen how well he is bouncing back I am better able to help him continue to heal and recover.  I will try to continue to keep you all updated as often as I can. I encourage you all to keep helping support the various animals that you hear about that need assistance. It is greatly appreciated by both the humans caring for them as well as the animals themselves. May you all have a wonderful 2018!

I included a short little video so you can see his little tail in action.

Hi Frodo fans. Thank you again for all of your support for Frodo’s veterinary needs. He is such a sweet dog and I am grateful he is able to live the rest of his life loved by so many.

I realize there has been many needs in our community and country recently but if anyone is able to help Frodo with additional veterinary costs it would be much appreciated. Frodo has had chronic eye problems with his left eye since we found him. Despite treating him round-the-clock with eye medications, a corneal ulcer in his left eye has become quite severe. The tumor on his left eye lid is most likely contributing to the non healing. Since Frodo has very limited vision in his left eye and it is most likely causing him some chronic pain, removing the eye along with the tumor seems to be the best treatment. He is such a friendly little guy and I hate to see him dealing with so many eye problems and the pain that accompanies them. I believe he will be so much happier once it is removed.

I have updated his expenses for this surgery (he can be neutered at the same time). Thank you in advance for any contributions you can give.
