Update on March 28th: It is with a very heavy heart that I update this former medical fund to a memorial fund. Gichuchu Okeno has left us. He was a husband, father, gem dealer, gem miner, a philanthropist in his Native Kenya, and a friend to many. His reach extended literally all over the world. He elevated the gemstone community in and around Voi. Okeno had a vision for the gem trade in East Africa; more education to empower Africans in the industry. He will be missed, but his efforts will not be in vain. His family will need lots of help to fill these big shoes. Please keep his widow Esther, and his children in your hearts and prayers.
Many of you know Gichuchu Okeno as a remarkable man, gem dealer and miner in Kenya. He has helped many people in the gemstone community, and has always supported others around him. Now Okeno needs our help. After a series of misdiagnosis, he has been admitted to a Mombasa hospital with serious kidney issues, and requires dialysis. Of course, insurance is very different there than here, and the sum required is going to be far beyond his insurance limits (only about $2000 for an individual, I think).
Okeno mentioned an amount around $3600 that I think is the cost of his initial treatments. Of course, it could go far beyond that. I've linked this YouCaring page directly to his PayPal account, so he will receive all funds directly and relatively instantly. A donation in ANY amount goes a long way in Africa, so please consider this.
Get well, Okeno.
