Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing urban, low-income, at-risk youth with opportunities to interact with the natural environment through lessons and activities that instill a value of environmentalism, leadership, teamwork, science, and physical activity. We accomplish our mission by having college-aged mentors lead weekly after school sessions and monthly outdoor adventures so that the middle and elementary school aged participants gain a greater knowledge of, and appreciation for, the environmental processes in the world around them, as well as learn stewardship strategies to improve the environmental impact they have in their families and communities.
GGO is excited to announce our new partnership with Big Muddy Adventures to offer outdoor education to under-resourced students in grades 4th-7th grade! Come celebrate this new partnership at the Gramophone (in St. Louis) on October 19th from 5-7pm. We are excited to announce that every dollar raised by October 19th will be matched by an anonymous donor (up to $5,000).
For the first time ever, GGO will be taking students on a canoe trip down the Mississippi River & will continue taking camping trips with Camp Manitowa.
