The Story

Hello, my name is Amy Godfrey and I am starting this fundraiser for my Best friend/ sister who has just been diagnosed for the 5th time with osteosarcoma.  I am trying to help her with all her medical funds as well as helping to take care of her family of 4. This is a little insight as to what she has went through since she was first diagnosed.  PLEASE READ AND IF YOU FELT LED TO GIVE AND HELP THIS WONDERFUL FAMILY, PLEASE DO. If you can't give just lift her and her family up in prayer which means more than anything.  Initially diagnosed with high grade osteosarcoma in right humerus in Nov 2012. Tumor was too large to resect without amputation so was started on an aggressive chemo regimen. After 5 rounds the tumor did not shrink, the chemo had not worked. Surgery was done to remove the tumor along with the entire humerus and replace it with a cadaver bone held in place with plates and screws. This left the arm with a lot of limitations. Followed up surgery with a new chemo regimen. Cancer came back in the arm in July of 2013. Started yet another new chemo regimen since the previous 2 did not work and shortly after had 2nd surgery on arm. Cancer came back Oct 2013 and was even more aggressive than the previous tumors. No chemo was offered since all had been unsuccessful. Tried radiation to slow the growth down but after 7 weeks it was proven ineffective. The tumor started to break through the skin so surgery was scheduled to remove everything this time, tumor, fatty tissue and skin. This left a big indention on the arm but was believed to finally keep it from coming back. Was cancer free from Jan 2014 until Aug 2016. This time it came back in the right lung. Sarcoma in the lungs is very dangerous. Immediately had surgery to remove by doing a right lung wedge resection. Cancer came back immediately not even 30 days later but was just now discovered seeing as how the recurrence resembled scar tissue from the surgery. Chemo options are still not available for my particular genetic makeup of the tumor. Pet scan done 3-23-17 to make sure there are no other tumors and surgery to remove the entire right upper lobe will most likely be the next plan.

Gail passed away peacefully this morning at 6:30 this morning. I know this is heartbreaking but at least she is in no more pain and suffering now. She is up there walking the streets of Gold rejoicing with her mama and daddy. Please continue to remember her Husband Jeremy and her 2 boys in your prayers. They are going to need all the help they are going to be able to get. Please continue to give if you feel in your heart to give so that this family can continue on without having to worry about the  financial piece of this most difficult time.

Please continue to remember Gail in your prayers as her daddy passed away on June 23rd. Also, that devastating news hit her 2 days after finding out her cancer had spread to multiple bone and organs. She was given 3-6 months to live at best and then sent home with a picc line and hospice. She was approved for treatment and was supposed to start her first infusion today. They are still going along with it but her understanding is that nothing much will help with this much spread of disease and how quickly its spreading. They are going to move her son's birthday party up and hers and Jeremy's vow renewal. Please everyone just continue to remember this family and pray that God will wrap his loving arms around this entire family.

We all apologize for the lack of updates lately but as you can imagine life has been chaotic. Since posting last there have been several hospital admissions due to pain management from new tumors. What started off as a new tumor of the right lung, which was removed on April 13th has now ended up with 15 plus tumors in the right femur, sacrum and pelvis areas. The highest dose of radiation was immediately started during one of my admissions. Every time we think we may have a handle on these tumors more pop up. They have now labeled me as widespread metastatic disease with no curative treatment. Should my insurance approve I will start a maintenance type of chemo infusion on May 30th. This is considered strictly to give me as much time as possible. I am not giving up on hope because this could mean months or years and I plan on pushing for years. I am still currently unable to drive or walk for long at a time so my husband is still out on fmla which is no pay. We have felt so blessed to have had all of you that have donated thus far to come through for us but our need is still great. Please help our family in any way you see fit and it will be greatly appreciated! We love you all and we will continue to update as we find out more.
