The Story

On March 6, we announced that Funk Parade was well short of meeting its fundraising goals for 2018, and the event was unlikely to take place. We've made this campaign in response to requests from many supporters for a way to give.

All contributions are helpful. If we are able to raise an additional $60,000 through crowdfunding and sponsorship pledges, the event will take place. Otherwise, these funds will be used to pay off debts, and any remaining funds will be donated to a local charity.

Donations will go to All One City, the District-based 501(c)3 nonprofit which produces Funk Parade.

Good news: You have helped raise over $35,000, putting Funk Parade more than halfway towards making up the gap to host this year's event.

Donations to this campaign make up nearly $20,000 alone. Add Chuck Levin's matching commitment, contributions through Facebook, merchandise sales and a few new sponsorships from local businesses, and we are more than halfway to raising the minimum amount needed for this year's event.

Thanks to everyone who has helped bring the event this far. We are so close.  Conversations with potential larger sponsors are ongoing. Fingers crossed!

It's been one week since organizers announced the $60,000 shortfall threatening the Funk Parade.

Since then, the community has raised about $25,000 for the event -- over $15,000 here on YouCaring, another $1,000 on Facebook, plus Chuck Levin's matching commitment, and merchandise sales of over $1,000.

It's a strong show of support for Funk Parade in just one week, and it has helped open conversations with potential sponsors who could help make up the difference. Thank you to everyone who has given to and shared the campaign.

Thanks also to WAMU, DC Music Download, NBC 4, WUSA 9, and GreaterGreaterWashington for coverage of this effort.

Yesterday, Chuck Levin's Washington Music Center announced it would match all new donations to the crowdfunding campaign. A $50 donation becomes a $100 donation!

Chuck Levin's has been a staple of the DC music scene for 60 years and the Funk Parade community is incredibly grateful for their support.

Thanks also to WUSA Channel 9 for featuring this campaign on its AM news.
