Meet Tony. He's 14 and the most gentle of souls in spite of the increasing pain his disease causes. It's treatable, but the treatment is expensive, and Tony cant wait much longer. He has severe stomatitis, a feline disease that causes extremely painful inflammation and ulcers of the mouth, gums and throat. Stomatitis is the most painful disease cats can get. This condition is so painful cats will starve to death because they are unable to eat. Tony has already lost 5 pounds since 1st diagnosed. I have been syringe feeding him for a month now. He is such a sweet boy but it is also very difficult for him. After months of trial and error with various medicines, his vet recommended a partial dental extraction. However, that only helped temporarily. More drugs were tried and failed, and the next step was a radical full mouth extraction to remove the remainder of his teeth. Science has shown complete remission in 80% of cats who've had this done. Tony is one of the 20% for which is hasnt been successful. Tony also has diabetes, which weve been able to control until his mouth ulcers caused him to stop eating on his own. We are only managing his diabetes currently because he is unable to eat most of the time. We just went through a 3 week course of 6 laser treatments to try and help my boy. However, it did not work. That vet informed me if any root tips remain in the mouth, they may continue to cause inflammation, and this may be why he continues to suffer. Tony desperately needs to see a dental specialist. The closest dental specialist is over 2 hrs from us, and he would need to take a full set of x-rays under anesthesia. If anything is found, Tony would need to have further surgery, which has a good chance of curing him of this painful disease. I am hopeful, but we cant afford this due to all of our other vet bills we have accumulated. In addition, Tony just lost two of his brothers. Kitty Kitty passed away in August of liver failure. We lost Oreo 5 days ago to severe IBD and Congestive Heart Failure. His other brother, Shadow, was diagnosed with kidney disease 2 years ago and current labs show he is in advanced stages. I love my cats and do the best I can for them, but four seniors each with their own health issues has drained the bank. There's nothing left. Tonys disease is treatable if we can find what is causing it. The amount of current vet bills for multiple x-rays, specialized blood tests, surgeries, prescription foods, countless medications, laser treatments, continuing vet visits, and seeing a dental expert has us asking for your help. Tony cant go on much longer like this; he needs help now. Otherwise we will have to put him to sleep rather than see him suffer. Our goal is to raise enough money to finish paying off the current vet bills and to get Tony to the dental specialist for treatment. He has been through so much and is such a good boy. He remains a calm and sweet cat even with the terrible amount of pain he is in every day. Thank you for taking the time to read Tony's story. Please say a prayer for my sweet boy, and for his two pals, Kitty Kitty and Oreo who both recently left us. Also, please say a prayer for his brother Shadow, who is fighting a courageous battle with his kidneys. On the Sunday that Oreos heart failed him, a stunning cardinal visited our bird feeders and stayed all day. We haven't seen a cardinal since. There is a legend that a cardinal will appear to help a loved one pass from this world to the next. I truly believe Kitty Kitty came to help Oreo find his way across the rainbow bridge. I dont want to see that cardinal again, not for a long, long time. I truly believe that Tony still has a fighting chance to get well, and is not ready to leave us. If you could donate it would mean the world. There's been too much sadness and tears lately in our home.
