Hi my name is Gunner, before I tell you about my medical issues, let me tell you about my awesome mom & dad! Shortly after they brought me home they discovered I am deaf. This happened after I got a pretty bad bite from my gentle giant brother Buster (a lab, R.I.P.) I didn't hear him give me warning growls. That was my first trip to emergency. So mom & dad worked very hard training me with signals and lights to follow at night. Now I'm 5 years old, a Dachshund, recently diagnosed with diabetes. So far in the last few months, the doctors have not been able to get my disease under control. My glucose hasn't been under 400 yet, and has been over 600. I have weekly visits to my vet, and have been put on a special diet. The doctors are going to be scheduling more expensive test as they feel I may be insulin resistant. I currently weigh 12 lbs, and receive 13 units of insulin a day, still have very high glucose. My mom almost cried the first time she gave me a shot, they really aren't that bad, but everyday I know she hates doing it. I feel bad because I make "lakes " in the house, and have ruined all the floors, but she doesn't scold or yell at me. These Lakes are like sugar water on the floor, very, very sticky. I can't wait to feel better, mom is worried that this is going to take a toll on my body, she's afraid I'll lose my sight or suffer kidney damage. What will happen to me if I can not see or hear, I'm scared! My furry family Hank & Ruby are not exactly happy with all the new rules they have to follow due to my new very strict schedule, but none the less, they still lick me and try to play with me. My mom has a business that is breaking even, so no pay for her yet. She is also a grandma, they call her G-Ma. There are 4 of them, she takes them to work with her everyday. She also recently took on a home based party business to bring in extra money for my medical bills. Hoping that you can donate a little to help with my medical expenses.
