Jeremie, Grand'Anse Department
Well, here we are again. :) By now, I know a lot of you have heard me say that going to Jeremie, Haiti last year was life changing for me. It gave me an entirely new perspective on the needs in this world and my place in it. I hold a special place in my heart for the people of Haiti and the relationships I made. So, naturally, I knew I would be going back. With that purpose in mind, I started setting aside the meager income I make between my small networking business and the items I craft and sell. I absolutely hate asking for money- I feel awkward and really terrible at it. (Even though, I know deep down that part of God's plan is drawing in other people to share the burden and the experience). If I was going back to Haiti, I wanted to pay my own way. Then, on October 4th, the world watched as Hurricane Matthew hit Jeremie head on. That beautiful village was demolished and hundreds lost their lives. Hundreds who survived the actual storm, later died from starvation and disease. The majority of their diet is vegetation and it was all gone. No clean water. No homes or shelter from the rain that continued for a month after. It left everyone hungry and homeless. So, all the money I had set aside to return, I sent. The people there need so many resources to start over. Food, water, building and roofing materials etc. I had resigned myself to probably not going this time. But something sticks with me and keeps echoing in my head. They need my money, but they don't want my money, or just my money- they want my presence. They want to know people outside their own community care about them. They want to see God at work in the relationships of people who leave the place where they have it good, and come to them. It's an encouragement to them. And that's why I'm going back. And that's why I'm asking all of you again to help me. Even a small donation would be so immensely appreciated. I plan to leave January 19th and return the 28th. Donations will be used to help pay my way, air-fare, room/board in Jeremie, etc. All money exceeding those costs will go directly to the Hatian people- for food, building supplies, medical needs. If you are part of a small group that would like to come alongside and sponsor, that would be amazing! if you would like to donate extra towards a specific item, need, or family there, please let me know. Praying God's blessings on each of you!
