Rebuild the Village and Schools of Abricots, Haiti Last week, the most severe storm to hit the Caribbean in a decade tore through Haiti, devastating my aunt Micas village of Les Abricots. After days of not being able to get in touch with our family and friends in the village, weve learned that Hurricane Matthew has destroyed or flooded nearly all of the homes in the areamost of the tall, fruit bearing trees have been knocked over, the livestock are dead and had to be eaten right away, crops have been destroyed, the clean water sources are gone, all of the medicine in the dispensary is wet and unusable and the schools have been decimated. The Aftermath of Hurricane Matthew Les Abricots, a very poor part of Haiti, is home to a long-term project, Fondation Paradis Des Indiens. For the past 41 years the project, led by Madame Michaelle de Verteuil (Mica), has provided schooling, food, medical assistance, and vocational training for many thousands of children and adults in the 10 schools they have established in the region. The 10 schools serve more than 3,000 students ages 3-15. In the wake of this brutal storm, the roofs of all 10 schools have been completely destroyed, along with the projectors, smart-boards and schoolbooks. At the foundation, nineteen school buildings have lost their roofs, including the infirmary. All of the medications and first aid supplies are waterlogged and damaged. Seven other buildings are severely damaged. Most of the doors are missing. What is Needed The people of Les Abricots are in desperate need of your help to raise the funds for the following: Food Water purifiers Tarps Tents Medication & antibiotics Bandages Rebuilding school roofs Rebuilding fallen school walls Restarting tree nurseries and gardens (both are important food sources) Replacing school books, projectors, and magic boards Take Action Its imperative that we act as quickly as possible to help people get the supplies that they need. Unlike donating to a charity, making a contribution here is the most effectual and immediate way to help the people of Les Abricots rebuild their homes and ensure the safety and health of their families. 100% of the money will be given to the foundation Friends of Paradis Des Indiens who then give it directly to locals, on the ground, by who know how to best make use of the funds. All donations are tax deductible. Not only will your donation help rebuild the structures, it also will help restore some kind of normalcy in the lives of the boys and girls who go there for classes as well as medical attention and their primary meal of the day. Your donation may likely save a life.
