We are seeking support to fund the first city dog park in Harrisburg, PA. On any given day in the Midtown neighborhood, you’ll see many residents and visitors walking their furry friends in town and along the Susquehanna River. However, due to a lack of green space in the city, dogs and owners have few places to play off leash.
Friends of Midtown, is a Pennsylvania 501(c)(3) not-for-profit community benefit organization dedicated to the ongoing economic and cultural development of Midtown Harrisburg. In partnership with the City of Harrisburg and the Vartan Group, Friends of Midtown is raising money to build the temporary dog park to Midtown.
During the 2015 update to the City’s Comprehensive Plan, creation of a dog park was the 5th most popular idea within the Park, Open, and Civic Space Categories out of over 1,000 total ideas submitted. The project has been received with enthusiasm and support by Harrisburg, PA Mayor Eric Papenfuse, Economic Development Director Jackie Parker, and City Planner Geoff Knight.
The goals of the park are to:
- Offer a valued amenity to local residents, visitors, and tourists
- Make the Midtown neighborhood more attractive to potential residents and visitors
- Encourage economic development in the Harrisburg area
We need to raise $18,000 to fund the fencing, construction, signage, and supplies for the park.
