The Story

Frankie needs our support to beat the tumor in her brain.  Whether you know her from fixing and riding bikes, working on farms, cutting meat, making art, sharing dinners together, or getting tattoos, you know what a spark of a human she is.  She needs our help to get through this quickly so she can go back to motorcycle mechanic school and then open her own shop!

After a surgery on July 17, 2017 we know that Frankie has a cancerous tumor--it is a glioblastoma.  She is undergoing radiation, chemotherapy, physical therapy, and will need lifelong monitoring of this spot in her brain.

Let's help Frankie, Erik, and the rest of their family get through this without having to worry about money!  There have been plane trips, hotel rooms, car rentals, medical expenses, food, and missed-work costs.  Donate what you can when you can, and please spread the word to anyone else who might be able to give.

If you'd like to send Frankie and Erik anything (checks, gifts, cards), here's the address:

Frankie's got some great news!  Her latest MRI revealed that the tumor in her brain is NOT growing. This is thanks to chemotherapy, radiation, and the rigorous ketogenic diet.  She and Erik have been depriving themselves of bread, sugar, and anything starchy for months now.  It's not fun or easy, but it helps keep her brain healthy.

Frankie wants to send a big thank you to everybody that donated.  Your donations have helped Frankie and Erik get back to Maine, pay medical bills and rent, and buy keto-friendly food.

I would like to ask you to donate again.  Their awesome nephew, Daniel, has just moved out of their house to go home to Florida, and so their rent will be doubling.  The $16,000 that we raised for them is spent on medical bills, and they need our support again.  We all appreciate anything that you can send their way!

This babe just had a birthday!  Let's help Frankie bring in her 29th year and 2018 with a fundraiser boost.

Frankie and Erik are both back in Maine, but they've still got bills, bills, bills.  Special food for the difficult ketogenic diet, rent for their house, gas to drive to doctors.

Please chip in any amount that you can!  Even if you don't know Frankie, just know that she is a spark of a human, and she needs our support right now.

Here's some good news on Frankie!  She and Erik found out a couple days ago that there has been no regrowth in the radiated cell spots of the tumor.  That does not mean that the tumor is gone—there are still parts and pieces in her brain, and those spots must be monitored to see if they will keep reproducing like cancerous cells.
On Monday Frankie has to have another surgery to create another drainage spot in her brain.  This is because the tumor has caused a collapse of her left thalamus ventricle, which has caused a large amount of spinal fluid buildup in her brain.  Hopefully this will help with some of the tiredness and eye pain that Frankie has been experiencing.
Frankie and Erik are delaying their return to Maine until the end of next week so that she can have this surgery.  Erik said, “Over all we are pretty stoked!  The road to remission is many years out so the next thing is getting her new Boston team at Dana Farber working on Optune therapy among monthly Chemo doses instead of daily. Those two things in conjunction are fairly non invasive treatments which should allow her body and brain plenty of time to recover and get her hands and head back to working on what she loves in the year to come.”
Let's celebrate this good news by sending the Lomens some more money!  They've got a lot ahead of them in terms of recovery and continuing to fight this brain tumor.  Let's support them along the way!
