In the name of all the Franciscan Sisters, I thank you for your generous donation which you have sent us to help in our “Heat for the Sisters” campaign. The response of over 1,500 caring people have enabled us to address all of the serious heating problems of the Convent. Three boilers have already been installed, with two additional replacements in the near future.
Because of the danger which we faced with the problems in our Chapel, we made this our priority. The heating has been re-piped to exclude the area of the Main altar. After the questionable wooden area in the basement is inspected and if necessary, repaired, we will install a smaller heating unit for this area, independent of the main source of heat.
In our Congregational Constitutions it states: “As pilgrims in this world, the sisters seek to live the Holy Gospel according to the example of Francis of Assisi and to preserve in their religious family those virtues which are inherited, namely: faith in the presence of God, trust in Divine Providence, abandonment to the will of the Father, and self-sacrifice, charity, and humility.” I believe I can speak for each sister when I say that the challenges of the last two months have forced us to reflect on these virtues. No day goes by without us being grateful to God for leading so many people like yourself to reach out to us, not only with your financial help, but with the many, many warm notes of encouragement and prayer, suggestions, (quilts, heaters, helping hands, resources and even an electric fireplace!) that have truly warmed our hearts. Putting this dilemma in God’s hands has given us more graces than I could ever imagine. To quote St. Francis: “Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
Thank you to our benefactors, friends, The Journal News, Eyewitness News 7, CBS News, News 12, CBS Radio, the parishes who mentioned us in their church bulletins, Youcaring, and everyone else whom God inspired to reach out to us. You are in our daily prayers and hold a special place in our hearts.
Sincerely in St. Francis,
Sr. Laura Morgan, Provincial
