The Story

On Sunday, November 5th, our little town of Sutherland Springs was devastated by a horrible shooting at the First Baptist Church.  As of now, 26 of our beloved residents are dead and 20 more injured.

Like any good community, we are pulling together and helping each other in any way we know how.  For most of us, barbecue is one of those things that brings families and towns together for strength, charity and love.  Fall is barbecue season around here and we are very fortunate to have so many fairs and cookoff's with so much amazing barbecue in so many great places.

This Saturday, November 11th, we are blessed to have one of these events in La Vernia, our neighboring city.  Hosted by the Jon Wayne Service Company, the Veteran's Appreciation Day Cook-Off is an annual event held to support our local veterans.  Every team in this event has agreed to save some valuable space on their pits to cook special briskets to help raise money for the victims and families of the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs.

To really bring home the spirit of community and love, the Smokin' Angels BBQ Ministry has agreed to let us join them at St. Mark Lutheran church where we will join forces and sell as many plates of incredible Texas barbecue as we can to help our neighbors.

We will really need your help to make this happen!  We are currently seeking donations to purchase briskets, sides, drinks, utensils and plates.  Volunteers will be needed and greatly appreciated on Saturday to help slice and serve.  First, though, we need your help to buy everything we need to get on those plates!

100% of all donations will be used for this event and we are working with many local companies and vendors to make sure we are getting as much as we can for maximum yield and sales to benefit those who most need it right now.

Thank you so much for your help and love.  Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Please pray for Sutherland Springs and may God bless everyone affected by this horrible tragedy.

Thank you all so much for your generous donations!  When things settle down, I look forward to sending all of you notes or, hopefully, thanking you in person.

Our little town has come together like nothing I have ever seen before.  Donations of food, help and money have been pouring in and everyone is so grateful.

Please help spread the word so we can hit our goal and maximize the number of plates we can sell on Saturday.

If nothing else, please pray for the victims and their families.

I will keep you updated as the week progresses.  Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!
