My name is Robin and I am the creator of Project Kuya. Kuya is a Filipino word which translates to "big brother." I lived in the Philippines from the years 2013-2015 on the islands of Cebu and Negros. I learned so much about the language, culture, and the people. The Filipino people have become like family to me. When I returned to the U.S. in 2015, I wanted nothing more than to help those in need in the Philippines.
In 2016, I created Project Kuya as a platform to fundraise money to help those in need. Each year, I gather a group of volunteers to help me with various projects in Cebu and Negros. With your donations, we have been able to help hundreds of families and individuals by providing hygiene essentials, school supplies, food, toys, and more! 2018 will be our third year going back with the Project Kuya team and I am so thankful for the success that we have seen with our fundraiser each year!
By utilizing the funds that are donated, we are able to make such a huge impact! All Project Kuya volunteers are asked to pay for all expenses for travel, lodging and food. 100% OF THE DONATIONS WILL BE USED TO PURCHASE SUPPLIES FOR HUMANITARIAN EFFORTS.
1 U.S. Dollar is equivalent to 50 Philippine Pesos which is enough to buy a meal for one individual. With money conversion rates as high as that, even the smallest donation can have a big impact. With $2000, we want to focus these funds to purchase supplies to help as many people as we can!
I have seen extreme amounts of poverty as I lived in Philippines. It is such an honor to be able to use my resources in order to help those in need. I hope that you are able to join the Project Kuya family this year! We'll be sharing more updates with all of you as we get closer to our trip which will take place in July of this year!
