The Story

Climate change is humanity's greatest threat. Every day corporations continue to profit from earth's destruction. I decided cross America barefoot to see if I could save earth. I know this is a lofty goal, but I hope through my walk I can raise awareness about climate change. If we are ever going to overcome climate change we all need to do everything we can to stop it. One of the biggest struggles for people fighting climate change is money. The corporations destroying the earth have all the money. The people and organizations who are fighting to save the earth have very little. I began this campaign to raise money for the FANG Collective who I've witnessed first hand fight climate change. The FANG Collective is located in Providence Rhode Island. They are fighting the proposed construction of a power plant in Burrillville Rhode Island. They are also fighting the construction of a Liquid Natural Gas facility in South Providence. In adition to these local battles, members of the FANG Collective are currently in Standing Rock helping the indigenous people protect their water from the pipelines. I have worked personally with the FANG Collective. I know how hard they work and how much additional funding can help them. Earlier this year I was part of a direct action the FANG Collective did to stop Textron (world headquarters located in downtown Providence) from manufacturing and selling cluster bombs. A lot of people don't realize that one of the greatest contributors to climate change is the US military. This action was ultimately successful as Textron no longer manufactures or sells cluster bombs. The FANG Collective is full of some of the kindest and most hard working humans I have ever met. Please consider donating to this campaign to support them. All the money raised will go to the FANG organization.

Hello,

We are very pleased to announce that the Mark Baumer Sustainability Fund is now a Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit, as we’re now incorporated with the IRS.

That means that any donations made to the Mark Baumer Sustainability Fund from this point forward are tax exempt.

Being a nonprofit will also allow us greater opportunities for partnership and growing the scope of what we want to do in keeping Mark’s memory and vision alive.

Please check out the new website.

Greetings,

We’re sorry that we’re just getting over here to update Mark’s fundraising page.

As you can imagine, the death of our only son has been devastating. When Mark was killed on January 21, we faced an onslaught of details and immediate tasks that made getting access to this page impossible at the time, including gaining legal access to the fund-transfer aspects of the site.

We wanted to assure you that the funds that have been sitting in limbo are in the process of being transferred over to FANG. And as a commenter indicated, any donations that you want to make to FANG in Mark’s memory should be done directly to FANG (http://thefangcollective.org/).

This platform was one that Mark felt was the best option during his walk. It served its purpose, as Mark’s goal was to raise $10,000, and since he was killed, donations have blown past that and are now totaling nearly $27,000. Mark would have been pleased and grateful for your generosity.

We stand in solidarity with FANG and their work. In the coming months, we hope to partner with them and other organizations via the Mark Baumer Sustainability Fund (https://www.gofundme.com/themarkbaumersustainabilityfund) that we established to further Mark’s work and vision and to build something lasting in his memory.

Sincerely,

Jim and Mary Baumer

(Mark’s parents)

Hey everyone. I apologize for not sending out more updates, but I'm happy to announce we're three-quarters of the way to $10,000. Thank you to everyone who has donated. It's already going to good use. I'm not sure if you're all aware or not but every Monday all the donations for the week are transferred to the FANG Collective. A few minutes ago $654.12 was transferred. It was another good week of donations. And FANG can really use all the help they can get as they continue to fight the construction of a fossil fuel power plant in Burrillville Rhode Island. Anyway, thank you all for the support and keep following along my journey.
