The Story

Hello,

this is Sofia and I live in Sonoma County with my husband and 4-year-old twin girls. Besides my regular job at a medical device company, I’m also Vice President of Sonoma County Mothers of Multiples, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving families of multiple birth children in Sonoma County and the surrounding areas.

In the night of Sunday on October 8, several wildfires started in Sonoma and Napa county. While I feel fortunate that our home is still safe (although the fires have not yet been contained), many others have been not so lucky. The ravaging wildfires spread quickly in the middle of the night and gave thousands of people barely a warning to get into safety as their homes burnt to the ground. Among them, there are several families with multiples (we are aware of at least 5 families to date) who lost everything in these all-consuming fires. Everything, from clothes and furniture to family heirlooms, baby pictures, kids art work, stuffed animals and toys were lost in the flames. The destruction has been incredible and the road to recovery will take many years.

The outpouring of support in our community has been truly heartwarming and within days many resources have been made available to address immediate needs. While several of the SCMOM board are still evacuated near and far, we want to help as soon as we can. Therefore, Sonoma County Mothers of Multiples is starting a fundraising to help families with multiples who lost their homes in the Sonoma/Napa wildfires by providing monetary support as they try to get back on their feet. We are starting with a $10,000 goal and all proceeds will be divided equally between the families. So far, I am aware of 5 families (all with twins) who have lost their house, but this number may grow as the fires are not yet contained and many people are still evacuated uncertain about the fate of their homes. Personally, I am donating the first $500 to kickstart this fundraising campaign for our families in need. Any amount, small or large, is welcome and appreciated.

Thank you for your support!

Sofia on behalf of Sonoma County Mothers of Multiples

One picture can say more than a thousand words.

This is especially true when I first saw this picture from one of the families who we are supporting with this fundraiser, as their 9-year old twins watch where once stood their home.

Thank you again for your contribution as we are past the mid-way point towards our $10,000 goal. We will be dividing the funds equally between what is now 11 families who lost their homes. They all have twins, ranging between 10 months to 18 years. We learnt of one more family this week and added them to our list. They have 2 year old twins and had just moved into their new home, which was one of the thousands of homes that burnt to the ground.

Thank you again for your support, in every way. We know we are making a difference and we couldn't do it without your help. Please help us spread the word to all who may consider supporting our cause as well. Thank you.

With gratitude,

Sofia

Thank you. Thank you again. Thank you for caring and sharing and making a difference. You are literally helping to rebuild lives. Three weeks ago today savage winds ignited wildfires that ravaged our land, tore off roofs, burned down buildings and homes to the ground, and broke the spirit of our towns and cities and the people that live in them. This is our reality. But we can no longer focus on this. Instead we choose to move towards recovery and rebuilding.

Fire tore down our homes and broke our hearts but it will not break our spirit. Your donation is allowing those affected some desperately needed funds to begin this process, of healing.

We are halfway there. To meeting our fundraising goal of $10,000. When my hometown of Calistoga was evacuated, my vice-President Sofia, built this fundraising page for our club to assist 5 families who lost homes. Weeks later, after the dust and soot have settled, air quality has improved, and an inventory has been taken, a new number has been revealed. About 10 families from our group have lost homes. So we charge forward, bent on making a difference. We thank you for your funds, your caring and your sharing. You are making a difference. We continue to do more of the same. Please spread this word to any and all that might care to contribute.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Christina Julian Dwyer, mom of 4-yr-old twins and President of Sonoma County Mother’s of Multiples
