After our last campaign
, we were hoping to have a monthly giving program
in place and keep at least a month's supply in reserve so that we wouldn't have to do these "begging programs." However, in the world of nonprofit fundraising, you learn to expect the proverbial "monkey wrench."
We are coming to the end of our second pallet and did not receive a shipment in January since the program chose to put it on hold for the month in order to reorganize. As a reminder, the program was turned "upside down" because one of the rescues that participates in the redonation program violated the agreement by selling the dog food. To keep distributors from completely pulling out (so that would basically put an end to the program), NGAP (National Greyhound Adoption Program) has had to purchase additional equipment and hire staff to code all the bags they ship out. (See photo of letter from director)
They had warned participating rescues that the price would go up, which is why they allowed us to order two pallets.
The price of each pallet is now $100 (an increase of $50) and freight is estimated about $400 - $450. They are allowing us to order two pallets again in February, so I suspect they will be raising the price again, at which point we will have to do a serious assessment of the cost-effectiveness of continuing our participation. So we will give this program one more shot.
We seem to now be back at "square one." The pallets will not arrive until the end of the month so we will have to double our purchases of the Victor dog food, our "regular" brand that we use as the base so that our dogs' digestive systems are not upset
We would be so grateful if we could find 50 supporters who would commit to a monthly giving program of $25 per month (or 25 donors at $50). This would cover all our dog food expenses for each month and would allow us to focus on our veterinary and training expenses.
