Friends, some of you may or may not know that my dear wife Erika Novak Lazzaro
has been struggling with chronic illness over the past 5 years. Shalimar , as she was known when she was belly dancing, has been unable to dance nor participate in many of the things she loves these days. She was diagnosed with Lyme disease and associated bacterial co-infections, parasites and mold related illness. Her symptoms are intense and include chronic pain, migraine headaches, neuropathy in extremities, digestive problems, weight loss, cardiovascular symptoms, shortness of breath, dizziness, neurological symptoms, brain fog and poor concentration, and major fatigue, to name a few. All of this has really affected her quality of life and also her ability to work as you can probably guess. She is a skilled acupuncturist and one of the most caring and compassionate people you will ever meet. Her illness has compromised her ability to help others which she is so passionate about, reducing her patient load to minimal work hours. We have had to move 3 times in the past 2 years to try to avoid mold. We had to get rid of most of our belongings each time to avoid cross contamination of mold spores and microtoxins in each new household. We are currently living in a newly constructed apartment in Carmel Valley which seems to be relatively mold free, however after 6 months she still has not improved. We have been to various MDs, Lyme specialists, integrative medicine, infectious disease specialists, naturopaths, homeopaths, holistic healers, even faith healers. Numerous lab tests and countless thousands of dollars spent with little or no results. No one can tell her exactly what she has or exactly how to treat it, we have tried everything, including several alternative treatments with minimal results. We have been informed of a treatment center in Seattle, Sophia Health Institute that specializes in difficult to diagnose and treat illnesses, that people have been reporting success with.
I would love to get her in there but the costs are quite high, and they do not accept insurance. We are looking at somewhere in the 15-20k range for the first few weeks of treatment and subsequent follow up, which is more than we can afford. We are not the types to regularly ask for assistance. We are hopeful this this group of cutting edge doctors may be able to help. Please contribute what you can to our cause, it would be greatly appreciated.
