The Story

Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to Encore! Performing Society. Encore! is a group of local youth dancers, the majority being members of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.  These children work daily to improve their dance skills under thorough guidance of their instructors and they enjoy sharing their love of the arts with the community. This year we were selected to take our production, the Four Moons, a tribute to Oklahoma`s five Indian Ballerinas, to the Cherokee Days at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington D.C. This production involves 12 dancers from Oklahoma, with rehearsals being conducted in Tahlequah, OK. Your contributions will be used exclusively to lower the costs to our dancers, which includes costumes, props, travel, lodging and meals. Encore! Performing Society is a non-profit organization and all sponsor funds will be used strictly for the dancers to reduce the financial burden on their families.   The average cost per dancer to participate is more than $800, which is particularly difficult for families with more than one dancer and/or modest means.

I have been personally involved in this production: from choreography, obtaining music rights, coming up with costume ideas, hair style for dancers, finding the right people to create digital backdrops, various Native American attributes that are used, but more importantly - I feel that our generation has to remember and honor the heritage of the five great Indian ballerinas - and who would do it better than Native American dancers?

Dear Sponsors,

as we are coming close to complete this fundraiser - I would like to express the gratitude from every volunteer at Encore Performing Society, our dancers and their parents. Thank you for making this trip possible!

Here is the link to the youtube recording of the Four Moons in DC during Cherokee Days 2018. We had a great audience every time we performed. We did 5 shows (!) in 2.5 days! We worked hard and it was the experience of a life time for each and every one of us!

I will leave this post up for a week and delete the fundraiser afterwards

Sincerely,

Lena Gladkova-Huffman

costume work in progress by our costume mistress, Ms. Dayna! These are all tribe-specific! Can you tell which one is which?

we are gearing up for our free preview even in Tahlequah prior to heading out on Wednesday for DC. We are going to host a silent auction with some awesome baskets from our parents and businesses in town. We are blessed by each and every one of you! To those who we can meet in DC - we can not wait. To those who wont make it - we will provide a live streaming link from the museum! You guys are AWESOME!
