Dear Families and Friends,
Thank you for all your calls, emails, and texts with your prayers for my family members in Nepal. We are so thankful that everyone in my family is safe thus far. The houses of my older brother Tshering, and my mother, as well as the teahouses of my young sister (as shown in pics posted here) and my cousin have all been destroyed from the earthquakes and aftershocks. They are camping out on the potato fields to avoid further terrifying aftershocks. The fear of boulders rolling down on their villages from the effects of the earthquake tremors and the avalanches higher up are also present. It is hard to get news from the villages right now, I have heard so far, there are 8 houses and a couple of teahouses in my home village of Chuserma and the neighboring villages of Charmanding, Gomela, and Ghat that have either been destroyed or damaged to the point that they are uninhabitable. Talking to my relatives on the phone in a few short minutes, I can sense the fear and insecurity in their voices and their worries for their lives. I can’t imagine what they must feel right now, having lost everything all of a sudden. The level of devastation is so overwhelming all over the country. There are immediate needs, such as medical aid, food, and temporary shelters. Right now, being so far away, the only thing I can think of to do that will help my family and people in my villages in the long run to regain their sense of security and to ease their anxiety about their future is to help them rebuild their lives especially their lost homes and teahouses, the only source of their livelihoods. All donations will go directly to my family and other families in these villages impacted by the devastation.
