The Elm Grove Elementary School Library wants to inspire the next generation of innovators. Will you help?
Today’s public school libraries are expanding their role beyond reading and research, to focus on helping students become curious learners and develop critical thinking skills.
As educators and parents embrace learning principles based in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art and Math), libraries are the natural fit for reaching every student through digital technology, hands-on interactive learning opportunities, and the exploration of exciting topics.
This is especially important as we recognize that not all students learn the same way. And, as Elm Grove’s enrollment rises to more than 800 students, we need a library that can accommodate more students and easily adapt to different uses.
With your help, and the leadership of Librarian Craig McCarthy and Principal Kathy Faulks, Elm Grove’s Library is transforming into an innovative 21st century learning space that will better serve EVERY Elm Grove student and teachers.
Much of the work has already begun! New tables, chairs, and rugs have been installed. The staff has started clearing out the back room, removing old equipment and outdated VHS tapes. This work was funded by a $17,000 gift from Elm Grove PTA and support from the school and library budgets.
Will you help us fund the important, final phase of this project, and help us meet our goal of raising $20,000 by the end of the school year? Your gift will provide the technology and materials needed to make the Library a truly awesome space, including:
- A fully-stocked Maker Space, where kids can learn new skills like carpentry and sewing, explore architecture and circuitry, and more!
- Self-guided Discovery Boxes students will use to dig deeper into important topics from paleontology to botany, and beyond
- Robot programming software and building kits
- A 3-D printer and 3D Doodler pens, so students can create real models from their imaginations!
- Mobile computer workstations and book displays
This library transformation will be a game-changer for our children. We need your help, and the support of every Elm Grove family to make it a reality!
There are many ways you can support this project. The simplest is to make a cash donation in any amount. Your gift of $50 or more will be recognized on a beautiful tree mural at the Library’s entrance. Recognition is available for individuals, families, organizations and businesses, in several ways:
- For your gift of $50, you will be listed on a leaf.
- For your gift of $150, you will be listed on a flower.
- For your gift of $250, you will be listed on a bird.
- For your gift of $500, you will be listed on a forest animal or large bird.
- For your very generous gift of $1,000 or more you will be listed prominently on the tree trunk.
Give $50 or more and you'll also be invited to a very special PREVIEW EVENT in August, where you will be FIRST experience the new library, see demonstrations, and enjoy hands-on activities.
It is important to note that our Library will still be an advocate for reading and literacy, and will still guide students and teachers to books that will capture their imagination and interests.
Elm Grove is leading the way for all Hays CISD elementary schools, with our library transformation serving as a pilot project that will eventually be implemented district wide. Please help us raise the $20,000 needed to complete this important project. Purchases will be made as funds become available, so the sooner we start raising money, the sooner our students can begin exploring!
EGE parents can also contact your employer about supporting the project through employee-directed giving program, direct donation, matching gifts, or in-kind donation.
And please share this site with grandparents, neighbors, aunts, uncles, and friends, to ask them to also make a gift and invest in the future of our Elm Grove students!
A note about WePay, our payment processor. We've selected YouCaring.org to process our online fundraising campaign because they do not charge Elm Grove PTA large processing fees. The only fees taken from your donation are the ones collected by the credit card company. When you make a donation online, you will see that YouCaring includes an optional additional gift (made out to them) at check out. You DO NOT have to make an additional gift to YouCaring. If you choose not to, please click on the arrow and enter 0 in "other amount." If you would like to make an additional gift, you will help YouCaring continue their important work to help nonprofit organizations and individuals in need raise money with the lowest possible fees. Thank you.
