The Story

Hey everyone, my name is Eileen Torrez and this campaign is for my younger brother Eli who is battling cancer. Here is his message below:

Hello friends and family,
With all the things going on in the world, the crazy diseases that are everywhere, and all the loved ones we have lost due to illness, it can be very frightening to know someone is battling a disease like cancer. I ask that you please do not feel frightened for me. This disease is very much under control, as long as I follow certain steps to cure it... and one of those steps is asking for your help. I have been working to heal my body with natural methods for nearly two years, yet it is a tough race to win with diet and lifestyle alone. At this point, I will need intervention from western medicine - a decision which I still feel conflicted about, but enough is enough: it is time to get this over with so I can move forward with my life.
The doctors are confident that with their recommended treatment, I can be completely cured. With the additional measures I plan to take along with this treatment, there is no doubt that I will come out strong and healthy. The treatment is called BEP, a form of chemotherapy. Many times, when a patient undergoes chemo, it is a last-ditch effort to prolong the life of a dying person. In the case of a few cancers, however, chemo has had very good results in eradicating the cancer completely. This cancer is one of them. In addition to this treatment, I also plan on using yoga, meditation, massage, acupuncture, among other forms of therapy to minimize the side effects of the poison.
After the disease is gone, once and for all, I'll be free to pursue the long-term goals I've been waiting to invest all my energy and time in. Over the next two years, I plan to become a working musician, recording, performing, and traveling around the world. I know I have the mental capacity to do these things; it will help to have the physical on board.
What I am asking from you is your support for the next few months. I will not be able to work as I undergo the treatment, but will still have to pay for living expenses as well as the cost of various side treatments not covered by insurance. Any amount that you can offer adds significantly to my ability to beat this disease. Even if you cannot contribute monetarily, your moral and spiritual support will go a long way in helping me through this time. You can reach out to my sister Eileen with offers of other kinds.
Thank you for your support.

Hi everyone,
I want to sincerely thank all of those who have donated so far to our campaign. Thanks to your kindness and support, Eli's cancer has been almost completely defeated and we are ready for the next stage in his treatment - foundational recovery. Here's a statement from him:

"I am nearing the end of my chemotherapy treatment. After this I will go on to periodical tests to be sure that the cancer is gone for good. Most likely this is the case and I am in the clear. In the upcoming months I will be recovering and soon be ready function regularly. It will be a process involving rest, eating wholesome food, and other healing modalities. I am at a pretty weak point but nonetheless I know I will soon be stronger than before. I have many bills and upcoming expenses to consider going forward, including finding a place to live. Unfortunately I still can't work due to the side effects of chemo, although soon I hope to be earning a living though my creative endeavors. I am so appreciative of everyone who has been able to help in any way. Your generosity has been a blessing in this easily distressing process. The encouragement, the love from all around has kept me smiling through it, despite the heavy discomfort involved in this treatment. I sincerely thank you from the depths of my heart-- wishing for all to remain healthy and make wise decisions about their lifestyle so that they may have an enjoyable old age."

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. It means a lot to us and we are happy to have friends from all corners buoying our confidence and helping us stay positive through the fight against this disease!
