It is with great excitement we write the latest update. (Spoiler: we aren’t pregnant yet.) As you know, we have struggled with our fertility treatments over the last couple years. Our chances get worse as time goes on simply because our embryo grades are lower (and the stress gets higher).
After talking with our doctor and a few more tests for Liza, he suggested again that we consider a surrogate. There is no medical issue to “fix” to ensure better results with the next IVF procedure. But, as luck would have it, we had a dear friend offer to be our surrogate at the beginning of our journey two years ago. To our surprise, when we asked Ashley and Kevin two years later, they were still willing and even excited to be such an integral part of our journey!
We knew she’d be a good candidate because of her previous pregnancies and current health. Our doctor evaluated her and she discussed it with her OB/GYN and all the stars have aligned!
Although this is an amazing opportunity to give us the best chance with our last two embryos, it comes with almost twice as many bills. It will likely be the same cost for the treatment that was covered by our last fundraiser, but there are a number of other tests and contracts and doctor appointments that need to be completed including lawyers, psychologists, and FDA testing (turns out you can’t just put someone else’s genetic material in a willing body).
We have updated our fundraising goal for anyone who did not have an opportunity to donate last time. We really appreciate everyone who already donated! You have given us the security to start this new path with a more likely successful outcome. Please don’t feel pressured to donate. We know we will be taken care of no matter how much is donated.
If you want to see the original story and fundraiser, please check out my blog. I’ve updated pictures of our amazing friend and surrogate, Ashley! She’s a superstar!
Any amount you can donate to our fund is very much appreciated. Every dollar makes a difference; every share of our story gets us closer to our goal of $20,000 to cover medication, embryo thaw and doctor visits not covered by insurance (the original amount), plus the latest bills including lawyer fees, birth certificate petition, extra testing, and psych evaluations.
Thank you all so much for your support over the years. We are the luckiest people we know.
