Matt Carrao forever will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him - for his warmth, great sense of humor, and unique ability to relate to young kids. Matt was such an encourager. I, for one, will miss hearing him say of my own son, “Oh, no, you can’t take Sammy out of the game. Where’s Sammy B.?“ He had, undoubtedly, not yet reached his full, God-gifted potential to coach and mentor. It is easy to see Matt in Caleb (15), who shares his father’s gifts of humor and fun-lovingness with children. And, it’s hard to look at Gabe (12) without seeing Matt’s kind, gentle side. Soccer games, for certain, will never be the same again without Matt’s sideline anxiety from certain substitutions at critical (and not-so-critical) points in the game and missed opportunities by the team or missed calls of the ref. We will likely never again be able to watch Gabe running like lightning down the field without hearing Matt shouting “Speed, G! Speed! You gotta get a touch. Now, G!”
None of us will ever understand this immeasurable loss, but let’s pray that all of us will change the way we live and the way we think because of it. Let’s pray that Earlie, Caleb and Gabe will take the RICH life God has for them and will use this painful opportunity to become brighter than they ever may have been otherwise…to continue on…to do what they love to do…to reach new heights for the Lord and this broken world beyond all imagination…to show God’s love in ways that only someone stricken by this level of grief can. We all have seen what happens when tragedy hits a person right square in the face and that person gets up and loves bigger and shines brighter than ever before. The world takes notice and listens. And, Lord knows our world certainly could benefit from noticing and hearing from the Creator of the universe speaking through His creation.
We know that what the enemy wants to destroy through the loss of Matt, God wants to restore and use for His glory. We all just need only let Him do what He CAN and WILL do. Friends and family of the Carraos, let’s commit to stand alongside Earlie, Caleb and Gabe for the long-haul, as they walk this path and bear this cross. Let’s be changed also and take advantage of every moment of this beautiful, painful life we’ve been given to touch our communities in deep and meaningful ways for the glory of God. Speed, friends! Speed, families! You've GOT TO GET A TOUCH - now! Time is, oh, so short.
“Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later.” Romans 8:18 (NLT).
This page has been created to help with family expenses which will be all the more challenging with the loss of Matt's income and support, including school expenses and college funding for the boys.
