Community. Compassion. Dignity. Underwear.
It is with grateful and hopeful hearts that the LA Bag Hags launch
“OPERATION PANTY DROP.”
“Operation Panty Drop” is our ongoing effort to buy new underwear for homeless and poor women living along Skid Row in Los Angeles.
LA Bag Hags are a feisty group of friends, who have volunteered monthly at the Downtown Women’s Center, for the last five years. We make pretty good take away snack bags, but soon discovered a basic need that wasn’t being filled.
This is our third annual “fUNDERWEARaiser.”
Yep. We know it’s a quirky endeavor. But we also know, it makes a real difference.
The impact goes beyond physical necessity.
The gesture of one person helping another is the power of community and compassion.
We have many people to thank - and a lot of work still to do.
Over the last two years thanks to the abundant generosity of friends, family, college roommates, Peacocks, Broadway babies, ex- boyfriends, neighbors, local businesses, a dancing daytime talk show host, yogis, a hockey legend, a few Lakers, and a flock of compassionate strangers, we have been able to raise nearly $35,000. THANK YOU.
With that money we have provided the Downtown Women’s Center with MONTHLY deliveries of underwear. Last year we expanded our donation to include seasonal deliveries of bras.
Since 2013, Operation Panty Drop has provided 26,000 pairs of panties and nearly 2,000 bras.
The need for underwear continues - and so our efforts continue.
“Operation Panty Drop” will not end homelessness.
It is, however, an earnest effort to make things just a little bit better for women who are struggling.
If you can - please do.
With gratitude -
