Posted on March 26, 2017Look who is able to sit up in his chair after 6 weeks of bed rest! Doug can now sit up in his chair in periods of 15 minutes. He is getting physical therapy for the next 2 weeks and then he will hopefully be home! Thank you to everyone who has donated and shared this fundraiser! If you are able, please share this so we can get even closer to our goal!

Posted on February 22, 2017Hello friends! I just wanted to let you know that Doug's health has been challenged lately. We thought that after 3 bladder surgeries, a bad pump removal, shoulder replacement and a bout with cellulitis, he was on the road to wellness again. However, in January a pressure wound quickly declined and Doug's doctors recommended surgery. The surgery was performed on a stage four wound that had infected his spine on February 6th. He is doing much better now, recovering at the Madonna Rehab Hospital in west Omaha. However, his recovery will be long and arduous. He will be required to spend six weeks laying on a clinitron bed which is filled with sand and air and moves his body continuously. His head can only be lifted 20 degrees, and he cannot move his body himself AT ALL. He is being turned by staff members every two hours to make sure that the surgery heals correctly. After these six weeks if all goes well, he will have physical therapy for two weeks to learn how to sit again! His spirits are good but it is difficult for him to eat, read, work on a computer-even breathe sometimes. It is important that he stay positive so he will need all of your good wishes, prayers, cards and visits to make it through this challenging time. If you are wanting to visit feel free to message Emma or myself to get the address and room number. He loves having visitors to keep his spirits up! Thank you all for your continued support of our family, Laura
