The Story

A former paramedic in Wichita, Kansas, Doug Clarke was accustomed to rendering aid. He is NOT accustomed to asking for help.

Now, several serious medical conditions have robbed him of his ability to work. He takes 30 medications a day, which far exceed his disability income.  He is under incredible stress about finances, and that is not at all good for his health.

Doug's illness is progressing to the point that he will need a liver transplant in order to survive. As of now, he is just a couple of ranking points shy of being added to the transplant list. He needs frequent medical procedures that require co-pays beyond what his disability income provides for.

Can you please help with just a few dollars? Lifesaving cures should not only be reserved for the wealthy. Can you help him get the medical treatments he needs?

Doug is a kind and generous person who has touched the lives of so many.  Will you please join us in lifting Doug's spirits in whatever way feels comfortable for you? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Doug received good news and bad news today. Here is his update: "I had to increase 3 medications in dosage. $241.00 just for those 3. I have no idea what I'm going to do. And I had good news today. My MELD score rose to 15! Only 9 more months at 15 or higher and I'm one step away from the transplant list."

Doug's monthly medications far exceed his income. His spirits need a lift. Can you help? Thank you!

Latest update from Doug on 1/17/18: Insurance company will no longer cover one of my meds so we switch to one that they will, as they required. What cost me $60/month the last few years is now $117/month. Can't wait to see how many others nearly double! :-( Don't they hear me screaming when? WHEN!

Medical update from Doug: Apparently the blood clot in the large vein entering my liver has taken up residence somewhere else in my body or has dissolved. Not sure which. That means no blood thinners or a TIPS procedure at this time. Certainly good news but it does cause a little concern not knowing exactly what happened to it. I'm now down to checking my MELD score every 3 months waiting for it to reach a level that would qualify me for the transplant list and having EGD'S as necessary to treat the varicies and keep my esophagus as open as possible. Unfortunately we've exhausted all ideas for the near constant nausea and..... You get the picture. To say I'm sick of being sick would be an incredible understatement. But it is what it is. That's all for now. Thanks for caring everybody. Love you.
