Don't Cry... I'm Here is based in the Minneapolis/ St. Paul, Minnesota Metropolitan area of the United States and donates beautiful culturally sensitive dolls and teddy bears to newly arrived refugee children from newborn to 18 years old. These dolls and bears give the children a doll or bear to love, hug, talk to, cry with, and laugh with while adjusting to a new land. The gift pack for girls includes an ethnically dressed doll matching their cultural traditions, other doll clothes, doll quilt, pillow, shoes, socks, and accessories. These dolls help these girls to learn nurturing skills, typically learned from parents, but now compromised due to survival in dangerous situations and refugee camps. The gift pack for the boys includes a Boy Buddy Bear, some clothes to dress the bear in, a toy, a blanket and a tote bag.
We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity and have been operating out of our house since it began in July of 2017. We have grown so quickly to meet the need of "Welcoming" our newly arriving refugee children that we have outgrown our space and need an workshop to do our work and to efficiently reach as many children as we can. We have begun using our local library's meeting room to hold "Workshop Volunteer Hours" and a Drop-Off location for volunteers that work from their home and need to deliver to us. As we have our "Workshop Volunteer Hours" we use that time as an opportunity to bring an awareness of the Refugee Crisis and the adaptation of the Refugee Families to their new life in the United States. So...we have many facets of reaching out to our community for help and cultural acceptance.
